buying photoshop is a fairly major expense ... hundreds of dollars. For $10/month you get photoshop and lightroom plus a bunch of other related progs.. they are on your computer(s), and you store your photos wherever you want with on the cloud being an OPTION not a REQUIREMENT. For this you get all the updates... and there are several rounds of improvements each year... so you always have the latest and greatest and never have to outlay a large sum of money at any time to upgrade. It's a fair deal as far as I'm concerned....

one of the best things you can do to improve performance is to add a SSD (solid State Drive) and use this for the windows operating system and all application software including PSE and it's work files. It is fine to store your photos on the 2tb regular hard drive or even on an external drive. Size wise you can get by with 128 gb for this purpose but if you can go to 256 gb...

I've signed up for the CC versions of Photoshop and Lightroom and just noticed that I've got what looks like multiple versions of photoshop installed (looks like the CC updates aren't updating but installing new versions) I've got photoshop cc, photoshop cc 64 bit, and photoshop cc 2014. I want to delete all but the 2014 version but thought I'd check here first to help ensure there is nothing being used from the older versions? Also anybody know why CC installs new versions versus updates? It looks like lightroom is installed as an update but not photoshop..

thanks!

I have the wacom intuos pen and touch medium. It takes a day or 2 to get used to how the video screen and the tablet map to each other. Unlike a mouse where you can roll it anywhere to move the cursor.. the wacom has an exact spot that maps to the corresponding exact spot on the screen. So if you want to go the upper right corner of your video screen you would go to the upper right corner on the tablet. That's why it is better to get a smaller rather than a larger tablet.. it cuts down on the movement needed to traverse around the image... Once you get used to it.. It is great!

I have an into us pen and touch. When it comes to tablets since the top is mapped to your screen, smaller it's better less travel distance

If you are shooting flying/moving birds it would be best to use wide mode of focus. There is an undocumented feature which switches to spot focus by pressing the multi selector (joy stick), straight in.. this gives you the best of both. In order for this to work object tracking needs to be off
This according to Gary Friedman sony a99 ebook... he has an a77 ebook too.

Similiarly you can set up your ael button to also switch to spot meter and lock the exposure (works as a toggle)

pick up a copy of Gary Friedman's a77 ebook. It covers everything about the camera and includes settings recommendations he has a website http://www.friedmanarchives.com/ebooks/index.htm. you won't be sorry.

The over exposure is likely due to the bright background and it's large portion of the overall frame.

Spot metering will measure the light on your subject vs. the overall scene which might include a bright background that will otherwise over expose your subject. Once metered and the exposure set you can reframe while holding the shutter release half way down, which will hold the settings... hope this helps

I have the a99 and shoot mostly manual with wide af and spot metering. The a99 has a setting that switches to spot meter by pressing on the joy stick and holding so you can set to multi segment and get to spot when needed. Get Gary Friedman ebook for a77

STOP, LOOK, LISTEN - according to a WSJ article just 18 hours ago. The Sunni rebels/terrorists in IRAQ have found and are in possession of Sadam's cache of WMD's.. Not exactly good new but it seemingly vindicates Bush and Cheney and all the DEMS that also had this belief and voted for the war. They were found in 2 bunkers associated with a chemical company. I guess, the sunni rebels knew where they were all along...

there are ample tools in LR to backup catalogs and smart previews, merge them copy one to another etc. No need to worry.. just make sure that you store your catalog on your own drive and that you back it up regularly.
