No doubt, both the iPhone X and the Samsung S8 and Note 8 (as well as lesser known newcomers like Essential which will DEFINITELY be worth watching) will be great tools.

The real question is whether one wants to live inside or outside Apple's walled garden.

Not much different to the choice between Macs and PCs in the final analysis - no right or wrong choice, just what works to suit your needs, and how much you want to spend.

Always best you know what you need and/or want, and why, before putting the money down

More 2¢...

Two posts in a day. Who knew?

Great gadget and iPhone have excellent apps, but they are questionable as business tools imho.

It's still almost impossible to create even a short Word doc, save it as a PDF then email it PLUS an image to a client - a task Androids and BB10 devices do with ease.

For most tasks, iPhones require more button presses than either of the above alternatives.

Great apps though, if that's what you are into.

Just as reference, I have a old iPhone 6 which lives in the glove box of my car, for music and occasional navigation; a Blackberry Passport as the daily business workhorse (it also runs a few android apps), and an (free!) Android as a second phone number.

Got the iPhone as part of a new contract but hated it.

The Samsung Note 8 looks interesting but expensive, but I have no desire to be sucked back into the IOS ecosystem as it is just too restrictive.

Would love to find one single phone to do all things, including dual SIM.

My 2¢...

Thought this might be of interest...

Much as I enjoy using my full size camera, my phone is always, always with me and I'm looking forward to this technology when it becomes available. I'll bet Canon and Nikon etc won't be near so enthused.

This one was taken in Switzerland with a Blackberry Passport SE. Needs some adjustments and cropping to reframe it though, still not too bad for an as-taken point-out-of-the-window phone snapshot.

Thanks, UHH.

Alex

I bought this a couple of months ago, but for various reasons didn't get around looking at it in detail. After opening the box I discovered that it isn't quite what I'm looking for and of course it's too late to return it. The wrist strap comes with everything you need to install it, even if you don't have a plate.

Full details can be found here (where I bought it): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SFGNWPQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$65 from Amazon including Prime shipping, or $45 from me, including cheapest possible shipping in ConUS.

I will be away until Sunday 21st, so won't be able to ship before Monday. I'd prefer to be paid via PayPal, please.

You are clearly far more educated on the topic of IR than I, however on the IS-1 when the 093 filter (or other filters) are used to block visible light, the meter functions just as usual.

The photos I attached were taken full auto and subsequently converted to B&W.

IR samples - early evening scenes in Colorado and some bright red roses in a vase on the kitchen counter.

Plus the back of the camera which I forgot to show in the first post...

This a VERY hard to find Fuji Film IS-1 Infra Red digital camera, in excellent & little-used condition.

Use the included B+W 486 filter for normal spectrum photos, and use the B+W 093 for IR-only pictures.

- IS-1 camera in the original box, 28-300mm, articulated viewing screen

- B+W 486 filter for normal spectrum photos

- B+W 093 for IR-only pictures

- Lens hood & lens cap

- CDs - manuals & software

- IR keychain flashlight

- Strap & cables

- 8GB Extreme 4 CF card

$900 includes shipping via priority mail to anywhere in ConUS. Anywhere outside the US will be $45 - if I can ship to you for less than that, I'll refund the difference, although the buyer will be responsible for loss in transit, customs duties etc.

Sorry the picture quality isn't great - best I can do with my phone.

Putting the camera up for sale here seems the most reasonable thing to do, for what I hope will be considered a fair price. Hopefully the buyer will get great use out of it and put some shots up on here...

Thanks for all input

Alex, prior to putting the camera on ebay, why not post it in UHH. The Sale area of the site is quite good. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-6-1.html

I see this link on the camera: http://www.fujifilmusa.com/press/news/display_news?newsID=862613

It looks nice, but I have to wonder if it holds any advantage over modified IR cameras. It captures in the 400nm to 900nm range. My modified Sony A55 can do that. It has an articulated screen. My A55 has that. You can see live on the screen the image thru the dark filters. My A55 can do that. It gave the ISO range. My A55 exceeds that. It can shoot RAW. My A55 does that.

I don't think modding cameras had caught on big time in 2007, but it certainly is popular now. So this is what the competition is. If you take a look in eBay at IR converted cameras or IR modified cameras, you will find all kinds. So the question I would want to know is whether it offers some trick that the modded cameras cannot do? If there is something it can do better, then that is what to emphasize.

Just curious here - can a modified IR camera still be used for normal spectrum photography? I was under the impression it was either one or the other.

In 2007 cameras could indeed be modified as it isn't hugely complicated, but after doing the research I preferred to buy a factory-built camera that could do both, and I suppose I got lucky and had the opportunity to buy one.

Apparently, neither has Adorama or Amazon heard of either. I checked both sites and neither says only for military or police. Maybe B & H knows something the others don't or B & H got something mixed up. Usually items reserved for police and military are not sold by regular retail dealers.

I have differ - apparently Adorama has heard of the restriction:

ADORAMA says:

Take Note

This item can only be sold to corporate org., government entities, & to consultants of such org or entities, operating in the US, that intend to use this for forensics purposes (such as police depts., the forensic nursing & medical specialist community) If you're a qualified cust. call 888-874-1586

Couldn't find the IR version on Amazon, although plenty of Fujifilm X-T1s.

The IS-1 was also restricted and I just happened upon it.

I don't understand at all why it should be restricted, apart from a few overly vocal puritan's who are terrified it could be used for some nefarious purpose.

In 2016 you have to be careful what Google search terms you use as some searches definitely have, um, unpredictable results.

I was looking for some water ski equipment and stupidly started out with 'water sports'. THAT was an education!

It looks like the photos in the DP review link above.

I think I'll go the eBay route later today - have to take some pictures then.

I think that I originally paid about $875 for it - and if memory serves (and it so often doesn't'!) - I bought it from B&H.

Had it been $9k it would never have found its way onto the brown truck:)
