Seeking Infra Red advice - selling an IR camera

Hello, everyone.

A long-time lurker here, I've have been reading and absorbing for quite some time.

I have a Fujifilm IS-1 Infra Red camera, which I'd like to sell. I upgraded from a Canon 40 to Nikon 750, and I'd like to appease the credit cards gods before they become too angry.

The camera is in virtually perfect condition, having been used very little - probably 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. As they were generally sold only to law enforcement and medical institutions, the IS-1 is a very rare animal which makes it hard to judge what it might be worth. I've never seen a used one for sale.

I'm thinking of putting it on eBay. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might expect to get for it?

The two pictures attached are of an evening scene in Colorado and some bright red roses in a vase on the kitchen counter.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

If it were not rare, I'd put it up as a Buy it now for 35% off the list price. But if you think you might get a bidding war, then put the starting bid at a figure where you could bare the pain of selling it if you got only one bid.

Hello, everyone. br br A long-time lurker here, I... (show quote)

I couldn't find any on ebay, so if you decide to list it there, and a decent reserve price. A high reserve discourages bidding, though and costs a bit more to list. You could contact Adorama, etc., and see what they would offer.

I think that reserve prices piss off people. It might be better to have the bidding start at what would otherwise be a reserve price. I know that has its problems too. People don't think they might get an incredible bargain. That's why some things start at 99 cents. I would only start something at 99 cents if I knew it was a hot item like a recent iPhone in perfect condition.

According to DP review, this camera was introduced in 2007 and sold for around $9000.00. Hope this helps.

If you notice the date on the article, it was written January 2007, besides how could someone have the camera if it's not out yet?

The government has paid over $500 for hammers too. It's amazing how reckless congress can be with our money!

I think that I originally paid about $875 for it - and if memory serves (and it so often doesn't'!) - I bought it from B&H.

Had it been $9k it would never have found its way onto the brown truck:)

It looks like the photos in the DP review link above.

I think I'll go the eBay route later today - have to take some pictures then.

I read a couple of months ago about someone introducing a strictly IR camera. I know it wasn't in 2007, but I don't recall the brand.
