This took me a while to take. As a new convert to photography I thought it would be nice to take a shot of the moon. Botched up the first 10 0r 15. So I am happy with this one. Handheld on my Sony A57. Hope you like it.

very nice

Very nice first jumper. I would like to offer a couple of suggestions. First, use the techniques that are comfortable to you. If you like to use a tripod, use it, they do have a place ( I use one 90% of the time). CHECK your diopter setting! Manual focus depends on what you see thru the viewfinder. I personally have found that the AF is more accurate that my old eyes ( I use AF-S, set to focus priority & single point). Most important, keep shooting, keep posting & having fun!
thanks for the reply.....I well try and apply some of your suggestions.....and yes you are right I have to do what is comfortable for me.....as I am in the learning stages ...I 'am also trying to absorb as much info as I can from fellow "macro" hoggers....thanks Tom

I strongly suggest ditching the tripod and learn to do without it. It's just in the way for shooting live critters. I have managed to make some use of my monopod a few times in certain situations but, even it can be more of a burden than benefit "most" of the time.
To bad about the little Jumpers demise :-( She was a beauty
I had frozen the little bugger hoping to be able to get some decent shots since this was my first....that was the reason for tripod...but he thawed pretty quick and then I crushed it accidentally

walking around the house today, looking for signs a bug life and found a jumper on the side of the house...caught it and placed in freezer to take inside to shoot it....set up the camera on my tripod had the settings at 1/200 sec ,,, f/16 ,,iso 800...with my sb700 set at 100% with a 5x7 diffuser....unfortunately only got these three shot's off when the spider started to warm up and move around...then the bad, part I tried to re-capture it and accidently crushed it... so I did not get to try other settings...sorry about being long-winded
