(When I was a kid, the word "tang" was a slang term having to do with sexual activity. 'Twas a hyphenated word, "tang" being the second half of the term, and the first half rhymed with "spoon".)

Since you mentioned this, I just had to chime with:
What do you get when you mix Tang & prune juice?
Prunttang

Thanks for the replies, but I still want to know if a gimbal head can do all the functions that pan heads and ball heads do. My thought was could I get a gimbal and do away with the other two?

I am aware of the differences between a pan head and ball head mount. However, a gimbal head mount is a new concept for me. I did a search here but did not see the answer to my question: can the gimbal be a replacement for the other two mounts, or is each type required for specific purposes? A head that fulfills all category uses would be convenient and cost efficient.

Someone has to come up with a way to inject large amounts of helium into a camera. :D

I'd prefer an anti-gravity device; thus no problem worrying about leakage! Perhaps Steven Hawkins can come up with an idea.

I don't think I like this product. It's way to big and heavy. Women won't wear it I don't believe. Men, such as myself, don't have the hips or frame to support it. Some will do well with it providing they are supporting a small lens but a lens like a 70-200 will be too cumbersome. IMHO.

I've seen a number of women in my time that certainly had the hips required to carry.

Right. I'll send you a check when I get the $1 million from Nigeria.

What scares me is the fact that these Nigerian scams have been going for so many years. If they didn't work, they would have stopped trying. "A fool and his money are soon parted."

You're absolutely right! And those fools vote, too

I hang my70-200 all the time with a flash and a FF body. It works just fine.

OK security, there is an option at the flick of a lever to totally secure the camera/lens/flash. I thief can't take from you without stopping holding a lever down with one hand and removing the camera with the other. This is a great option when you have to run at a wedding, one camera in hand and the other in the holster totally secured. It places the weight of a heavy lens/body on your hip instead of carying it around your neck which can get very heavy.

Weather proof, the belt is more weather proof than your camera probably. It's made of nylon and Velcro with plastic locks. There is a small piece of stainless that the camera attachment slides into. I would say I would have no problem leaving it in the rain. I'd be more worried about my camera in the rain.

70-200 2.8 is my largest lens, but really due to the way it hangs, there is no reason you could not go bigger on it.

I love mine.

Glad to hear you like the product. As far as weather proof, I was more interested in how one would protect the camera while on the hip.

That would depend on how big her boyfriend is. :D

Your idea for the commercial sounds good. I just sent it to the company. They liked it so much that their Nigerian office is sending me a $1 million retainer. As soon as I provide all my banking information, they will do a direct deposit. Thanks again.

I should at least get a 20% creative fee 8-)

[quote=dourob]WILL ROGERS---MY HERO

Never Squat With Your Spurs On!

Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash in Alaska with bush pilot Wiley Post, was one of the
greatest political country/cowboy sages this country has ever known.

Wasn't Knute Rockne in that plane as well?

The subject of a recent post discussed various products designed to carry a dslr on the hip. One that intrigued me is the SPIDER HOLSTER (or SPIDERPRO). From the video demo, it looked like the best thing since sliced bread. However, I would appreciate comments/thoughts from those who own one and have field tested it. This item received quite good reviews on the B&H site. Most were 4 stars or better. The most negative comment I read (did not read all) was by a woman who tried it and found it too large for a small female body. I don’t remember for sure, but it was most likely the belt size.
Here are some items I would like feedback on:
1. Security – is it relatively “grab & run thief” proof? The security issue discussed in the video (if I remember correctly) centered on maintaining control of the camera when mounted. I get an image of “hired gun” when walking around with this rig on the hip.
2. Weather proof – are there products compatible with this system to protect camera on the hip when rain can be expected? I’m wondering if a rain cover would slow down the rapid access capability.
3. Maximum lens length – I would think that the longer the lens, the more cumbersome it would be to carry. With a long lens, it’s going to stick out past one’s butt quite a bit. I can imagine being in a crowd and needing for one reason or another to turn around or back up. Wham!! You just smacked that young attractive woman in the butt with your lens. And from there it could go downhill quite fast.
Just thought of a neat commercial for the Spider Holster: scene from Gun Smoke. Bad guy calls the Marshall out to a dual. Marshall appears with his dslr attached to the Spider Holster. Bad guy has a Brand X canvas holster containing his dslr. Bad guy reaches for his holster; Marshall reaches for his dslr and “shoots” the bad guy before he can get the camera out of the canvas holster. “Don’t be a second place winner; get the SPIDERPRO”.
