This is my preserved Green Stink Bug which is one of my favorite insects to use as a model for focus stacking sessions. It provides tones and textures that provide a good reference for calibration and adjustment of settings and to evaluate various experiments with gear and settings.

This experiment was conducted with the 85mm macro lens at 5X with a black felt Do-It-Yourself lens hood to abate reflected and fugitive lighting bouncing back affecting the quality of the shot.

Wow Wow Wow -- Incredible!

Margaret is beautiful. What will become of her now that her modeling career is deemed nonessential? I hope she catches lots of bugs for you.

Margaret will continue to model for me -- I made her a small abode!

Well it's been so long since I grabbed my gear I found I had forgotten how to use it! Here is Margaret -- a small jumping spider confiscated from my granddaughter's house. Canon Mark 7D Mark II, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, 1/100, 5.6, Auto ISO (400) Yongnuo YN24EX Macro Flash with diffusers flash compensation -1, manual focus, hand held. Comments for improvement or different scenarios appreciated. I know -- change the setting -- inside of a plastic lid is unbecoming!

Firstly, try to include some interesting foreground, lake, city lights, etc. Use a lens with an focal length range of 15-85. Usually F-11 to f-16 works well. Use a memory card in your camera that has a fast read speed so you can click away and then weed out the non keepers from the keepers in post processing. It is actually pretty easy to capture fireworks oohs and ahhs moments after you learn the basics.

Thanks for the great tips!

Very nice shot. Suggest honing in on the head and whiskers for more detail. Still a nice composition.

Thank you Jimmie -- I need to work on that!

With shallow depth of field and no photo staking, try to focus a little moe on the eye. Otherwise well done.

Thanks Jeff!
