So four years on, what do you think you could have done to make a better image?

You may be correct. I quickly defer to those more expert about birds. Your comment caused me to run this past other ‘expert’ birders and the consensus was an immature but based on the ‘gape’. Gape was a new term to me and research leads me to agree. You have a good eye. Thank you.

No, thank YOU for the lovely picture!

Does the yellow colour of the beak indicate that this is a juvenile bird?

I thought that the verbal explanation was sufficiently humorous without the photo.

For reasons that do not need to be explained, the accompanying photograph was not included!!

1: It separates the Left from the Right
2: It protects the center
3: It changes everyone’s point of view
4: It encourages everyone to look in the same direction

As always a lovely picture, although the shadow area makes me think a tighter crop may improve it?
Local names can be confusing as this isn't a 'bottlebrush' flower that I'm familiar with and looks more like "Agastache rugosa, also known as wrinkled giant hyssop, Korean mint, purple giant hyssop, Indian mint and Chinese patchouli is an aromatic herb"

Yes Megapixel adds artifact. I assume its algorithm thinks they should be there.

The original were/was B & W negatives. I scanned them with an epson scanner at 600 dpi. It was set for B & W negatives. I long ago lost the correct negative adapter, so use the transparency adapter, so had to crop the image, which ended up then at 811X396 for only 65.2 kb

Just for reference the Nikon Coolscan V operates at 4000dpi so at only 600dpi you are a bit optimistic?

Well, children, I'm pushing 90 and am in 'acceptable' health. I want to share some of the stuff on my computer. But I will confess that I was one lucky guy when I was doing these posted images. Didn't realize how lucky I was at the time. My personality and how I handled the payments ( stacks of 8 x 10 prints ) seemed to work.

Scary, it wasn't so long ago you were pushing 80 Jim, where does all the time go...
