Cameras are just like computers: no matter what you buy today, there will be something newer, faster, flashier, uses more gizmo's, whatever. Like Steve says above, buy what you can use now and move on. The Z series all have different mounts that the DX & FX lens series and if I were to buy a Z series camera, I would also start buying lenses for it.

I responded to your earlier inquiry that I also have the combo of D7100 & a newer D500. If I were to buy anything else at this point, it would be a D850. Just my 2 cents.

You haven't lived until you're walking thru the woods before dawn and go through the web of a really large spider draped through the bushes. You know he's around, somewhere, but don't if it's on you or the shrubbery. Great photos, as usual.

It is being discontinued but I absolutely love mine. The different choices for setting the focusing are a bit confusing. I also have a D7200 and a D750.

The camera IS NOT being discontinued. The kit is. Been discussed ad nauseum here.

I have the D500 and have also kept my D7100 as a backup. I have an older D5000 with less than 5K actuations I'm seriously considering getting an IR conversion on.

I like the D500. There's something about fast action situations and being able to run 10 FPS. It "sounds like victory" to steal a quote and then slightly modified.

I don't know if this has been covered or seen as I haven't been around for a few days.

Just read at Petapixel that Canon DSLRs have a vulnerability in the Wireless or USB transfer protocol that would allow hackers to take control of the camera and install Ransomware. All photos would be encrypted and not recoverable unless a ransom was paid. It appears that patches to the camera's operating system will correct the issue.

The company that discovered the flaw used a Canon 80D as their test bed but apparently the flaw was on most, if not all, of the wireless capable cameras. There was an official Security Advisory issued by Canon so you should be able to find it with a little effort.

The company that discovered the vulnerability apparently only worked with Canon but assumes other major manufacturers "might" have the same vulnerability as the communication protocol is common and most likely used in other cameras as well.

Just a word to the wise as our camera are really pretty sophisticated computers with a lens.

Amazon has that drive listed at $279 USD, a pretty tidy discount to the Eur priced edition.

I'm wondering how many don't get the song reference? Nice shot, as usual.

I guess I've lost the bulk of those brain cells from my darkroom days cause my Nikon 50mm for the F3 system was my "normal" lens. The 80mm for the Bronica SQ was the "normal" lens. The 135mm on my 4x5 view camera was the "normal" lens. I don't really have a "normal" lens for my D7100 or D500. I just focus, zoom, or move forward or backward until I have the framing I want. Where is the difficulty in that concept?

The interior is not stripped out so the tourists have room? I'd like for my wife to experience what we were confronted with on the USS Catfish (SS339), basically a much refitted version of the same class as the Bow Fin. I would like to make the trip to see her.

I have a Benro Series 4 Mach 3 carbon fiber that will support a large payload. It might be a little overkill as it will move your rig about 7 ft in the air at full extension.

You may have pushed my decision process on the D850 over the ledge. Very nice photos.

Upon further reflection, that's a lot of reflections. Good eye.
