It was kind of slow today with only the Yellow warblers-male & female and Ruby & Golden-crowned Kinglets.
There were also a Veery Thrush, a Sparrow and a Palm warbler. With a air temperature of only 49 I'm wearing my winter duds tomorrow.
Again these were taken with my D600 and 200-500 with the SB-910 strobe set to repeat 1/8 power.

These are amazing. I am so excited as we are heading up there in a week and I bought a new 200-600 for my Sony. Were these tripod or handheld?

I use a monopod with the setup.

Here are the results after 2 days of shooting at Magee Marsh. I used a Nikon D600 with the 200-500mm F:5.6g VR and fill flash with a SB-910 set to repeat at 1/8 power.

Norman camera helped me get through the controls menu to disable the joy stick when I had a Z6 loaner. I called them at 1-800-900-6676 and they guided me through the menus. I'm pretty sure Nikon provide the same help.

There is a disable function in the controls section of your menus. I had use of a Z6 in early spring and had this problem. You could call Nikon at 1-800-645-6689 or Norman Camera at 1-800 900-6676.

Using the 1.4X teleconvertor will make your f/5.6 maximum aperture f/8.

If you are using all of the AF sensors the D610 will autofocus with lens apertures up to f/7.1. If using the sensors in an array that looks like a plus sign then it will AF with lenses as slow as f/8.

If you are stopping the lens down...forget about it, your AF performance will be dismal no matter which sensor array you use.

Check out Ken Rockwell's review of the D610. He shows diagrams of the sensor patterns and the f-stops they work with.

I have the same equipment and the reason it was slow autofocusing was the amount of and quality of light your were in. I've noticed slowness in AF in bright sun and low contrast and good AF speed in high bright clouds. Its a case for putting it on and see if its working in the light your in I shoot this camera/lens setup with fill flash and get stunning results.

I paid $5,900.00 for my Sigma 800mm F:5.6 AF in 2002. I still have it and use it. I do not hand hold anything so I use a $30.00 baby buggy to move both big lenses around.

Really nice action shots, Larry! That second one looks like he is about to execute the dreaded lateral flip.

He came into the 3rd turn hit a rut and bounced up on 2 wheels. I've got Tom Bigelow at Eldora up on one wheel in the 4th turn.

Why is there green fringing on all images? If you shoot raw you can eliminate chromatic aberration, purple and green fringing by clicking on Lens Corrections while you are on the ACR screen. Also the cheaper tele zooms will lean more to fringing that ones with better glass. In backlighted photos even my Nikon 200-500 will show fringing. In these photos I have zoom in tight and use the clone brush to take out the fringing.

Here is a small collection of images of the cars Pancho Carter drove in the 70's and 80's. The number 11 ASA B&W stock car is in 1981 at the old IRP 5/8 paved track. He ran a V6 and did so well it was like he was giving driving lessons to the ASA crowd. The next B&W is from Winchester Speedway in 1978. He had been badly injured in a testing accident in late 1977 at Phoenix Speedway. He won the 1st race of 1978 at Salem and this image was shot at the 2nd race at Winchester Speedway in 1978. I shot Pancho at Findlay Race track, Terre Haute Speedway, Salem Speedway, IRP, Indy mile track, Sandusky Speedway and New Breman Speedway. These are all film scans and are shot using manual metering and focus. I processed them in PS6 and Topaz Denoise AI.
