May well be interested based on the general reviews for neewer. Can you post model numbers of tripod amd head so I can check the reviews?

Absolutely - we should definitely be arguing more about DSLR vs mirrorless, right Paul?

Hi

I use BBF and find it indefensible for moving subjects. On my Nikon D7200, I set for the AF/AE button such that it was under my right thumb, and set the camera to continuous focus while pressed, frozen when released. Be sure also to change the shutter controls to remove the focus function at half press to match.

You will want to read the books on autofocus and BBF by Steve Perry. I am not sure if they include specifics for Canon (he is more of Nikon guy), but the principles apply and it gives you the reasoning behind it and how to take advantage of BFF.

You have to do what is comfortable for your needs and shooting style, but I do applaud you for giving this a another go and seeing if it works.

Good luck in your journey.

I don't know how to "copy" things. i don't see that as an option on Apple Photos.

MaryFran

Per the comments above, you don’t want to do this within Apple Photos. It can change resolution as it goes (have the same issue when I share from within Photos - it asks what resolution I want to use, only one of which keeps it original).

Try copying photos with the Finder program. You have to find, within Finder, the photo library with all the files within it, but it should work fine.

It’s difficult to make specific recommendations as a) not sure what you want to use the camera for as your primary subject matter (Grandkids playing very different than birds in flight), b) why the DSLR equipment no longer works for this purpose - ie what are you looking to gain or avoid, and c) any other must-have requirements that you need. It would help the team here narrow their recommendations.

That said, you do have some specifics above. As an option that *might* fit your needs, I have, as an addition to my DSLR gear, acquired a Sony RX100M7, which has a really good wide range zoom, fits in a pocket (albeit a big pocket!), has IBIS and several other nice features. I wanted a more simple “point and shoot” that I could use when I could not carry the big guns, and as a supplement when wanting quick “candid” snapshots, but ones that were much better than my cell phone.

The only two downsides, for my needs, are it was not waterproof (trade-off to have a real viewfinder and mechanical zoom) and I find the menu system complicated compared to my D7200 and not as intuitive, though it is just a matter of straight memorization, no aided by the fact that it still not my primary camera. YMMV.

Again, hard to make specific recommendations with knowing more, but Sony (in the RX10 or RX100) line might have something that you may like.

Good luck with your journey

It’s easy to rationalize keeping, especially at home in a closet (or other storage location), but if you aren’t using them…..

I recently had to clean out my parents home. Went through her 20 years of photography equipment. Nothing I could use. My daughter was getting into it, so I said great, but the technology has moved on as would have been difficult for even her to use. Had to work hard just to donate to local school system for same reason. Or sell a bunch (at whatever ridiculously low price market now bears), and take all that cash, and have a GAS attack

Someone, someday, will be disposing of the collection. (May be morbid, but ultimately, inevitably, true). Since you do such a nice job inventorying every year, as a checkbox if you have used in the last X years. Once you go by that date, find a new home for the pieces while YOU can. Donate to a relative, school, community program, church - anyone whom can make use of it now.

You may get more pleasure out of knowing someone else is enjoying it rather than it sitting for 364 days per year (save the one trip to the Dining room table). And someone, someday, will thank you for culling your collection.

Just my $0.02

Are you using it just for photography, or will this become your main computer?

I went down that route (laptop to souped-up desktop) with good graphics card and new BenQ monitor a few years go. Worked great for the photography, but suddenly being chained to the desk for everything else, and not being able to travel with it, was awful. I ended up giving the desktop for my son for gaming, and going for a laptop with external drives (and the BenQ) for photography, but really liking/enjoying not being tethered back to my desk.
I thought about using it just for photography and adding a laptop, but that did not fit my needs as well.

Many here do use desktops, and love them, but this was my journey. Your needs and mileage will vary. Good luck.

Jules. These are absolutely awesome shots

I know there is not too much action in it (compared with some of the others), but my favorite is #5 due to her isolation and the overall color composition is really cool
