Just keep doing what you're doing. Beautiful shot.

He is a first for me as well, having him living right in my yard definitely puts some icing on the cake.

Nice capture with a Red Squirrel. The white one is not a Albino. An albino would have red eyes. It lacks or has a genetic quirk for coloration. Keep watch on your friend. They tend not to survive long in the wild.
I suspect you are correct that it is not a true albino unless it was just a trick of the light that makes the eye dark. I share your fear that he will not survive long, but he does appear to be full grown.

That was fun. Thanks for all the comments. If I ever go back to drinking maybe I'll try the hot martini. You also got me wondering if one of those ads led me to UHH, I really don't remember how I got here, but I'm glad I did. And I am completely hooked on Facebook. :P

I caught a glimpse of him in my backyard once before, but today he posed for me.

In our community we have a sheltered workshop that assists people with special needs. They run a resale shop that takes donations of things that can be resold to help fund their endeavors.

Has anyone else clicked on an Ugly Hedgehog ad on Facebook that promises an intriguing bit of info but only sends you to a "sign up here" page that does not provide the story? I applaud the effort to reach more photographers, but failing to deliver what you promised on a first contact won't work. BTW the info that caught my eye was about a threaded bolt, some string, and a washer; does anyone know what it was about?

I just rolled past the 10,000 mark on my 4 (or is it 5) year old Nikon D3100. At this rate I will have to start worrying about shutter count in about thirty more years.

Unquestionably, the ability of digital to capture images does (or soon will) surpass that of film. The ability to shoot as many shots as you want for zero added cost is probably the best and worst thing about digital. Some of my best captures of animals and birds have utilized "spray and pray" to capture that instant when the pose was just right, but I also find it too easy to just take a bunch of shots while tweaking settings instead of calculating the best exposure triangle for a particular shot. "Bracketing on steroids" encourages, for me at least, a certain laziness that the cost of film actively discouraged.

Each to his own taste, but I think your complaint is a little like saying your favorite shade of red is the only "good" one. The picture you have posted is very nice, but so are some of the long exposure ones.

I'm having a hard time coming up with the right positive word, interesting? fascinating? Unique? But really, the first word that comes to mind is sad. Like lots of other Hoggers I still have cameras from years ago and can't help thinking of the part many of the ones on this van must have played in capturing memories, preserving moments, being tools for pro's and giving pleasure to amateurs.

Very nice. I had only a few slides I wanted to copy so I just used a handheld slide viewer and my camera on a tripod. I was happy with the results since I was looking to preserve family history rather than making something for publication.

Is there a photography club in your area? If so they could let you get some hands on with various cameras. The entry level Nikon and Canon DSLRs will do more than any camera you have used in the past and about the only difference between the two will be how they feel in your hands.
