Made this slide copier this afternoon. The photos are from a 1/2 frame Ansco with zone focusing and auto exposure. They were taken in 1972 at a motorcycle roadrace, Mossport Ont.

I am happy with the results for a trial run. Can't wait to try slides from my Retnia IIA, Nikon Photomic, and Nikon F2. I need to find something better then the paper for the opake medium because of the grain.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

They look pretty good to me. Any hints as to your construction specifications and light power, camera settings, etc.? I'd like to try this.

Opal glass or the plastic equivalent.

Lots of options available in White Translucent Acrylic Sheets... Cheap but you'll have maybe to create a WB preset...
The trick is to make the distance greater between the translucent and the slide so DOF works to eliminate any traces of grain etc.

btw, Architectural velum is a fantastic texture free translucent albeit maybe not so durable...

Kudos for carpe diem here! You go... lol

Thanks for your inspiration!!!

Jay,
3/4 x 7 x 18 pine board. Camera is attached with 1/4 20 x 1 screw. Slide holder is 3/4 pine and can be moved back and forth. White paper is scotch taped to the holder. Bulb is LED daylight 60 watt equivalent. I shot raw auto WB. Shot manual f6.3 and set speed with camera meter. 1/8 to 1/15 sec. Lens is 28 to 105 af D nikon in macro mode on d7100. Pictures of setup with d70.

Very nice, and I'm glad to see that you're using an LED bulb. Did you have to clean the slides first? I can see that taking a lot of time with a lot of slides.

My first camera was a 1/2 frame. It cost $0.98 from a Whelan's drug store in about 1956.

Don't forget, you still have to flip the image. The writing is reversed.

If taken by the camera and the writing is correct (reading through the viewfinder), it will be correct on the copy. It then relies on how the copy is viewed/presented.

Very clear and sharp.

On my laptop they appear a bit magenta and reversed.

Other than that, you've done well. Let us know when you begin to market your device.

You could probably have purchased a commercially made one which would fit on the lens of the camera for a nominal price on e-bay. The light source you are using is poor.

Very good point, I well remember loading those slides for slide shows in the trays and thanks for carousel projectors from KODAK.

Necessity is the mother of invention, I really like it. I can see a very long time on this project, not building the device but all those slides egh.
