Yes, 'gaming' computers are excellent choices for digital photography editing. You need to consider your monitor too, an expense that is $200 to $500 more for a high-def mid-level model.

Thanks- I would probably keep current monitor at first and see how the display looks. I don't do more than basic editing, no PS graphic work, so may not need a screen upgrade..

Wondering if a "gaming" computer is acceptable to use for photo work. Costco has an MSI desktop going on sale Nov 25 for $1100 - MSI Codex R Gaming Desktop - 12th gen Intel i7, 12G Nvidia RTX3060 card, 32 G Ram, 2TB HD and 1 TB SSD. May be overkill for basic processing but my Lenovo i5 is more than5 years old, maybe it's just GAS...thanks!

We went to Antarctica with Quark in January 2020 and thought it was great. About lenses and gear. I have Parkinson's and used a monopod as a walking stick on the ship and during land excursions. I also used the monopod in the Zodiacs. It worked well. I had my 100-400 lens and am glad I did. Many times there are photo opportunities from the deck of the ship. You do not have to tote all of your gear on land excursions. Sometimes we just did Zodiac excursions. As long as all of the gear fit in the waterproof bag it seemed OK to have heavy stuff near my feet. Only during the landings was there an issue with the weight of my gear. Even during the landings I usually did not have to do much walking to get good shots.

Thanks for this info, glad you had a safe trip! My wife uses hiking sticks to help walking due to arthritis. She was concerned of using these on the Zodiacs, but it sounds like it would be ok. We are quite excited!

We too are going to Antarctica in Feb 2023, our 4th attempt after being cancelled due to covid. I hope my photos look 1/2 as good as yours does! For the Zodiac transfers I plan to keep main dslr's in backpack, and use a Nikon AW130 waterproof camera while on the boat, so as not to worry too much about water spray. Extra batteries for sure. D810 with 24-105, and D7500 with 100-400. Sony RX10 IV or Canon P+S with 40x zoom on ship for longer reach and smaller size. Everything gets so heavy!. Have a wonderful trip- Argentine beef is awesomely good!

Thanks for the explanation! Now it makes more sense. Would the "astro panel" extension work with PS Elements also or only with PS? Thanks again- Mike

These are great photos. But can you please explain what these terms/abbreviations mean ? Maybe I can use them for my own astro attempts. Thanks- Mike

I just checked, no removable divider but it has the fixed divider that also has a velcro strap that would keep it secure. It can be seen on the photo. Also the main front flap cover has velcros on both ends and holds the flap very securely. Thanks!
