Correct me if I am wrong, according to Google, Picasa will cease on 4/19/12.

Picasa isn't going away — it's one of Google’s most popular products. Instead, according to two sources familiar with the matter, Google intends to rename Picasa “Google Photos”.

Google is taking over lots of companies. It looks like Picasa is one of them.

Google has always "owned" Picasa. It is called "Google Picasa".

Hi cbdigital! Thanks for responding to my photos. So you are from St. Louis, eh? Did you work downtown perhaps? I love walking around the city taking pictures and I have ton to share with you. I will be more diligent about posting pictures. I don't know what I was afraid of. Everyone has been so nice!

More pic's of St. Louis please. My hometown, I live in upstate N.Y. now. The ice pics are cool! For the girl in the window try cropping just two windows from the bld. on the left, her window and the one underneath with the air conditioner in it, and two large windows on the right. You get a cool optical illusion that way. I love to play with my pic's after I take them. Sometimes too much on the sides distracts away from the main subject.

Fabulous? How nice of you to say that! I've been recovering from surgery for the past 6 weeks to I am ready to get back out there and that is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you!!

lover optical illusions. The Japanese characters for optical illusion utilize the character for elephant. Now that is one beast that is an optical illusion if you have never seen one!

Did you find the comments about cropping helpful? Although, I am not too good of a photographer, I spent years as a photo editor but never really had to explain why I cropped or not or the reasons for the actions.

Yes I absolutely agree on the problems that cropping would create .. the photo is fabulous exactly how it was taken :)

This was taken downtown St. Louis. Thank you for taking the time to comment ole sarg. Really appreciate your opinion.

I know little about macro photography so will not comment.

IMO The third shot is problematic. If you crop you will lose the idea of height of the window in which the girl appears. You get the idea of height from seeing the roof top and the sky and building behind the structure. Also, you would lose the cornice on the white building. Further, if you crop all you have is a girl in a window and she could be at floor level or on the second story.

So if you crop these are the problems you create. I think by simply straightening the buildings (I don't know how to do this kind of thing I have little or no PP skills)and with a good caption you have a pretty good illustration of the loneliness of city life.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. The first two photos were my first experience with macro and icy conditions. I thought the 3rd picture was interesting because it does take you a few minutes to see the girl talking on the phone sitting in the window. Just FYI - I got an A on that picture in my photography class.

I need more feedback about my pictures so I'm turning to HH for help.

The first two pictures were taken during an ice storm last year in St. Louis.

The last picture was taken downtown St. Louis. Just walking down the street and saw this girl sitting in the window of an old hotel.

Thanks HHs.

I kinda agree with Mike.

What is missing is that the pics just do not "pop" or jump at you. The hard thing about B&W is getting the contrast just right so the central figure of the page sort of jumps off the page at you and the background contributes to the central figure. I forgot which paper we would use to accomplish that sense of drama and I really don't do much pp work. Perhaps Capt. C or those who who really do pp would know how to accomplish this.

Tyler.... Nothing wrong with the second one that I can see. The first one looks like not enough contrast in the picture, and between the colors present. The focus is off too, can't even see the birds eyes, just flat looking. That's a pile of screwdrivers....;0)

Not sure. "Post Production?" Generally, I abbreviate as "PS" for photoshop-- which is not just a reference to the Adobe software. Kinda like Crescent wrenches and Jello....

Wow! Those are fabulous! I can imagine how your heart must have been pumping to find these little guys. I think I need to go to the Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis MO and get some shots of owls. Very cool pics.
