Anyone notice that Google has released an update to Picasa? Mine is now version 3.9.4.565 for Mac! They have added some nice effects to play with and a few other very minor tweaks such as side by side comparison which can be handy. I just started messing with it but so far it seems that they have added some good stuff and best of all its still free.
Thanks for the heads up.
I will update both my PC and Mac.

I just downloaded it earlier and Pinik is with it.
Correct me if I am wrong, according to Google, Picasa will cease on 4/19/12.

I just love Picasa. Will have to look for the update. I have so much fun playing around with all the neat stuff that you can do with your photos. Thanks for the information.
Wow I have not heard that. What will happen to all my photos in Picasa. Well I guess they will still be on my hard drive. I tried downloading the one you suggested and my fire wall stopped me from getting it. If I can download it does it work like Picasa did? When I added in pictures to my pictures folder they automatically dumped to Picasa.
Thanks

I heard that Picnik was discontinued. The article below is from the Flickr site.
"Picnik is Closing? What about editing on Flickr?
Yes, youve heard correctly. Picnik is closing on April 19, 2012. That means that after that date, you will no longer be able to edit your Flickr photos in Picnik. But don't worry! We already have plans in the works to make sure you're still able to edit your photos on Flickr. We'll post more about the new and exciting editing options on the blog when they are fully baked.
The folks over at Picnik have more information about the shutdown, including information about full refunds for Picnik Premium members and accessing your saved photos. Please see the Picnik Help Center FAQs or their Forum for complete information. You can also ask questions in the official Picnikers group here on Flickr."
jerryc41 is correct, it's picnik that will be shut down. But, untill it does, you can use ALL it's features, yes even the ones that used to cost$
So it is not Picasa that is shutting down? I have not seen anything on that editing site closing. Thanks
I read this:
Google acquired Seattle-based Picnik in 2010, saying it would integrate the photo editing service with its own Picasa. Were retiring the service on April 19, 2012, so the Picnik team can continue creating photo-editing magic across Google products, Dave Girouard, vice president of product management for Google, wrote in a blog post Friday.
I can't tell from this which one they're retiring. I had heard that Picnick was the one going down a few months back.
And just in case it does fold, you can always back up the download file to your computer and have it available for as long as operating systems support it.

I saw this, but not for Picasa.
As an addendum, I'd like to add that all the toics I have been able to locate on the subject refer to Google's rebranding of Picasa (as well as Blogger) versus discontinuing them. Curiously, none of the articles I found were actually from Google

Picasa isn't going away it's one of Googles most popular products. Instead, according to two sources familiar with the matter, Google intends to rename Picasa Google Photos.

Google is taking over lots of companies. It looks like Picasa is one of them.

Google has always "owned" Picasa. It is called "Google Picasa".
