You're right. I believe it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!!! 8-)
I have a D70, and have had the same problems. If you are changing lenses, try to keep the body of the cam. down when you do this, along with the base of the next lens while in the process. A good glass cleaner might be alright if you use a good cleaning and then dry cloth on it. Also..and I've learned this out the hard way...try to keep all equipment away from all possible areas /chances of "boogers" on lenses. 8-)

Ian..loved the pix...especially the detail. I was looking at one of the topics today on "Raindrops". Very interesting! I noticed a similar effect on one of your pix. I think it was you taking the pic, and the reflection of whoever was taking it repeated itself like a raindrop in chrome. (Brings to mind the tune by Simon/Garfunkle).
When I need to improvise and forget/misplace a certain filter, I use my old pair of shooting glasses. Anything with a tint to them that aren't lighter on the bottom part of the lens. Heck..even the tinted wrap that you can get to put around gift bags/pkgs. will work. Good luck!!
Wow!! Now I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas this year!! Thanks for the ideas!!
How about...1,3,2,5,6,4? In my way of thinking, the colors of one pic will lead to the next. #4 looks like the perfect closing /ending shot.
Hello. I use iPhoto to checkout, and if need be, to fix my pix during my learning curve. In iPhoto-under "adjust" you can straighten the image. If there's junk around the perimeter of the pic, crop it. Under "effects", well...check it out. Good luck !!
Necessity...the Mother of all inventions. Thinking outside the box...priceless!!
I believe #1 to be the pic to go with. #2, not very detailed..#3 kinda grainy. ( look at the nose of train in 1&2)
I also have a D70, a present from family. I've found that with a little practice (learning curve) it's fairly easy to use. Eventually, I'm sure I will upgrade...but after reading posted comments, the D70 will be with me forever.
