Annoucement from Apple yesterday listed a number of pro apps which will not work with high sierra. Aperture is not listed because it is already a dead product. Very likely it will not work in High Sierra.

And go to Windows 10, laughs my ass off. Every major company I've worked for that has allowed people to use Macs rather than PC's has shown a huge reduction in replacement and maintenance. IBM and Oracle both did this and now more than 40% are using Mac and will switch when their refreshment time comes up. By the way the refreshment time for a macbook is 5 years for a pc 3..

Posting by Apple says a number of 'Pro' apps will not work in the upcoming High Sierra OS release. Aperature is not mentioned at all (it is already a sun-setted application)_ but since the ones that are being specifically pointed out are from the same time as the last Aperature release it is likely it will not work in High Sierra. You might be able to test this by loading the High Sierra beta on a drive (not your boot drive) and test to see if Aperature works. I've already moved on so not an issue for me but...

Time will tell.. Ed

Texasbadger is right.. Backblaze.. Unlimited data for $5/Month (might be higher now). Used them for years and currently have 8.7 GB stored with them. I'm a mac user so don’t know how well it works with pc's but runs in the background with zero effect on performance. Backs up only data not apps..

I would add on1 raw to the mix but as f8lee explained it is not perfect to move off Aperature (thanks apple). You can continue to use it until it breaks but being proactive makes more sense. Works under Sierra but have no idea if it will work with High Sierra coming out soon.

Always been taught to get the image in the camera right. That hasn’t changed but what has is those images that I just couldn’t get right I might be able to in PP plus there are lots more methods for creativity than what we had in film. I used to think have a multiple image in my film cameras was cool. And if we are old school (not old farts)it seems like the new breed of photographers just shoot a ton of pictures then post them after pp them to death. A good example was all those horrible HDR over blown images we saw for a while. Couldn’t do that in camera with film but the idea certainly is great in landscape if done in moderation. I think your comment about art versus photography is right one. I can admire or distain both. It all depends on the image and my interpretation.

One additional thing to consider is technical support after purchase. I do not have any first hand experience/knowledge with ON1, but Luminar, like many other start up software companies has no phone support. They only have email support which is very frustrating and most times, at least for me, results in no resolution to my issues. All I have ever received are partial/cryptic answers to my questions that require additional questions and more waiting time for a response, which is usually days in coming.

Case-in-point, I currently have a version of Luminar that does not display the "Apply/Save Changes" buttons needed to save your changes back to LR when using Luminar as a plugin. I was never able to rectify this issue with McPhun Support, so this program is virtually useless to me.

Regarding your comment, "I do own a Lightroom version on my Mac, but that does not help with the PC since it is not transferable.", you may want to check with Adobe on that as I do not believe that to be accurate. I believe you are able to download to several computers, and they do not all have to have the same operating system.

My two cents worth, keep the change!

Not sure if you are on the pc (beta) or mac version but I am using the latest version (Neptune 1.2.0) and do not have that problem. Neither do I have the problem described about exporting. Running a relatively old iMac (2011)/Sierra/20 GB ram

Luminar has some interesting post processing capabilities but it does not have a browse function yet. I would look at on1 Raw.

Affinity Photo is available for both MAC and PC.
Macphun Luminar is available now on MAC and is coming soon for PC.

I use both, but Luminar the most.

Dave, what size monitor are you using it with. I have a 27" monitor and the first link Jerry posted left me thinking I would need a medium.

I too have a 27" monitor.

Actually the way I read the first article is with a 27' (what I have also) they are recommending the intuos pro Large... Which has a large price tag...I was hoping I could get by with the intuos photo small at $100.. Ugh

Great topic but most people are only discussing size. I would like suggestions on model to purchase since there are so many: Intuos Pro, Paper, draw, art, photo, comic, 3d plus cintio? And older models . I am assuming photo is the best for photo? I have an much older walcom tablet but doesn’t have modern drivers so pretty limited (basically a pen mouse).

Interesting enough I was watching an online seminar by Matt Kloskowski. He was taking people images and processing them in Lightroom. My go to guy for post processing. He used to work for ON1 but has split off on his own. Anyway someone asked if he used Topaz plugins. He hesitated to say what was probably on his mind but did say he never liked them much. Main reason was their pricing model. When you buy a plugin you get upgrades free for ever. But to make money they put a ton of plugins out there which basically do the same thing so Matt said he always had a problem knowing which plugin to use. He used NIK until Google bought them (so did I but with Aperature) then moved to On1. He uses Lightroom as his main program then pushes out to plugins to do special effects. Mainly he uses on1 10 effects and PS.

I use Lightroom but I shoot in HDR ..three bursts,, which LR does not treat as far as I know.
Certainly LR 6 support both HDR and Pano. Very easy to use and I get great results.

I have the full Topaz suite which is really plugins to Lightroom for me. I also have the Nik collection but be warned it will not be updated from Google so its use might be of limited time. I get the feeling you are a mac user. If so IMHO you should look at ON1 Raw and/or MacPhun Luminar. Both are quite a bit less expensive than Topaz. Both are Raw processors plus all the things you would expect in a post processing application. Luminar can be easier to learn and use but has most of all the functionality except for lens and color aberation correction (they say it is coming). On1 Raw has all of that. Both can be used as plugins to Lightroom, PS and PS Elements as well as Apple Photos. Both have free trials and lots of videos for training. I had used the ON1 10 plugins extensively with Lightroom but am moving to either luminar or Raw (still deciding). Raw has some big hickups when it was first released but they seem to be working hard to correct and add functionality quickly. Latest version is pretty stable. Luminar fixed the big issue I had with them which was they created huge files in their own format. 24 MG raw files were becoming 500 MB copies. Now they are about the same size as the orginal. It has a very interesting new filter called A.I. I find it very quick to use for fast and dirty post but Raw has a bit more horsepower and creates very small metadata files (1 to 2 MB) rather than huge files like Lightroom, PS and others.

Try them out.. Worth the effort.
