Would like to know how to access the shutter count on the Nikon D 80.

Thanks,

Don

To find out your shutter count take a photo, jpg or raw, and upload it to the site below. Site DOES NOT keep photo so it is safe. There is software you can install on your PC but this way is the easiest.

If you want a program to display all the exif data then download
Picture Information Extractor at the link below. It is FREE! :-D

Does anyone know if the D80 can actually show a shutter count over 100K or does the counter roll over to 0 once 99,999 is passed? Just curious!

Sorry about the title spelling, no one said I could type. LOL

The serial numbers SHOULD match. It may help if you provide a downloadable image with all EXIF data intact, as well as a pic of your serial number. A better analysis could then be performed.

The sticker on the bottom of my camera has not been tampered with. However the camera serial number and the embedded serial number DO NOT match. I thinking this may not be the original plastic bottom. I bought this camera from an older gentlemen about a week ago. Anyway to find out if either serial number is stolen? This is my worry. If there is no theft involved then I guess it really does not matter since the D80 is far out of warranty and the camera works fine. I would really feel uncomfortable knowing I have a stolen camera. I don't play that game.

You might consider trying this site / service:

http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/

If the embedded serial number has been reported stolen or lost to this service, you will know. Alternatively, you might edit the exif data to reflect the serial number on the sticker and upload that image see if it has been reported stolen or lost.

Last night this site did have a hit on the embedded serial number from 4/2012 but the camera description is a D40. The tag serial number is nothing.
I just ran the embedded serial number again and now I get a hit from 6/2012 on a D7000. Site appears bogus ......

While playing with the D80 menus I found that the comment had a name and phone number. I called the number and spoke to the original owner who did inform me that he had sold the camera about 2 years ago and had forgot all about the comment. At his request I will be removing his name and number. I feel much better. Still however it does not explain why the actual Nikon serial number tab on the bottom is different than the original serial number embedded in the photos. My guess is the camera base is not the original base. To bad I can not get Nikon to make me a new serial number label.

I appreciate all the suggestions but the sites I have been given do not address my question. Maybe I was not clear so I will re-phrase the question.

The serial number being branded into the photos taken with my D80 IS NOT the same serial number on the bottom of my D80. Is this normal. I would thing they should match.

Thanks

Since this D80 is far out of warranty and the camera is mint and functions perfectly with low shutter count it is not a real issue, my question is mostly curiosity. The serial number on the camera bottom starts with 3 and is original and has no signs of being tampered with. The anomaly is the serial number which is being branded it photos and being shown by Photoshop Bridge is not the same serial number although it also starts with 3.

I had a service center tell me that all USA Nikon camera serial numbers start with 3.

Anyone have an ideas or have experienced this. Had this been a new camera I would be VERY concerned.

Best decision you could have made. IMHO, Windows 8 is nothing more than Windows 7 with a bad makeup job. Mostly cosmetic changes. I went back to Windows 7 and have never regretted it ...........

Hi everybody I have D90 using for last 5 year and taken some very good and some bad one too but how do I check how many count I have taken
and where see ?

Take a photo. JPG or RAW. Upload it to the link below and get the shutter count. It is that simple. JPG takes about 15 seconds, RAW a little longer.
The larger the file the longer it takes.

I just bought a used D70 with less than 6000 clicks...is that a good deal? Battery...charger...CF card cables...Nikon ac adapter remote release and manual 140.00 bucks. Thinking about converting it to IR later.

If the D70 is in good condition and works then $140 was a good deal. IMHO :-D

I got used to the D80 and it always takes good photos. I had a D80 until it was stolen last year and really missed it. When I was offered an almost mint D80 with less than 3300 shots for $250 I grabbed it. I am not a professional do I do not really need a super fancy camera.

Attached is the first photo I shot to determine the shutter count.
Count is 3297

Just bought another D80 body. Got the original box with everything as it was when it was bought. The best thing is the shutter count is 3297. The only issue is the LCD window is scratched up though I have ordered a new one. The are simple to change. Other than the scratched lcd window, the camera is mint. Not bad for $250. I coupled the body with a Nikon 50mm 1.8D lens.
