Windows 8: I did a download for Gimp on my new computer. It is and HP and has windows 8. It went through the entire DL and now I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone give me any advice...

I did a download for Gimp on my new computer. It is and HP and has windows 8. It went through the entire DL and now I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone give me any advice of where it could have gone. Is it compatable with win8? I have googled it and got nothing,only the release date for gimp 2.8.4...

While in the 'Start' screen type downloads. The search page will open, even before you finish typing.
If downloads shortcut does not show right up, click 'files' in upper left corner.
Search is now divided into three categories - apps (programs), settings and files.
If you did a download and Installation it should be 'tile' (app/program icon) on the Start screen. Scroll to the right side.
If you did a download and no installation it should be still in your browser. Check 'downloads' in your browser.

Did all this. It's like it was never there. I'm gonna try and download again and save it instead of run. The program never opened after the download was through. Thank you for your response.

I see Win8 on lots of computer screens and device screens on TV. I guess that's their way of pushing it.

I would not recommend upgrading to Win8, but it does come with new computer(s).
Since getting a new laptop with Win8 for Christmas I barely use my Win 7 desktop. I now get confused and stumble around on the desktop even I knew my way around Win7 really well. Seems slow and clunky. Much like I felt about XP after using Vista/Win 7.
Works great with mouse on a laptop. Quick, real quick.
I also have been using Windows phone for about a year. For an old fart like me is head and toes easier and more intuitive than an iPhone.

Agree with all the comments about Windows 8. I was at a local computer store buying a new lap top for my son, and even they advised to remain with Windows 7. I took their advise while new Win 7 O.S.s are still available.

I was almost to that point when I found Classic Shell...1 reboot later and I was all smiles with my Win 8 lookin and a acting just like my Win 7.

wish I had gotten the same advice. This laptop has a 750 HD and 8 gigs of ram with quad core. It should be faster than my old one that only had 3 gig and 500 HD with dual core. Sad to say that is not the case. It came with Norton and that is slowing it down a lot. Can not download security essentials because it is not compatible. Win 7 was much better. I can't find anything.At this point any advice is accepted even sarcasm. I have a few choice words for it myself and i'm not cussing person!!!!!!

I wouldn't think so, it can be completely uninstalled....to be sure I'd say to ask the PC manufacture, I just don't see how it could though.

I'm gonna contact HP anyway and find out why this laptop is so slow. Internet Explorer doesn't respond half the time. Something is not right with it. I thought it was my internet to start with. It is not much faster than dial-up. I put it back on the old laptop and it worked just fine. I had the internet provider to check things out and they told me win 8 was slowing thing's down. Is that possible? I just simply wanted to work on some photo's of my granddaughter!!!!

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Used it for about 2 weeks and went back to Windows 7. Guess in my cast you really can't teach an old dog new tricks. I never could grasp the concept. It's almost like they are trying to convert a PC in to a tablet. Not for me.

exactly what I told my husband!!!! He bought me this new laptop to go with my Camera. I wish I had gotten it with win7!!! I just want to learn photography not computing!!
