I have not used a T3i or a D3200, but have used a t5i and a D5000 and D5200 a lot. And these are just upgrades to the to t3i and D3200, so comparisons should be about the same.

I prefer the T5i to the D5000 or D5200 because the feel and operation seem more intuitive to me. My sister and daughter both prefer the Nikon.

Having looked at many, many images made with each of these choices, I cannot distinguish any difference in quality and we are in a college class where images are pretty harshly judged.

Also, the STM lenses that come with the Canon seem to focus faster and quieter.

Not satisfied with the 18-55 and 55-250 lenses that came with my 70D, I purchased a white box 18-135 is stm from 42nd St. Photo for 369.00. Lens came with USA factory warranty.

I have not used the kit lenses since as this lens covers just about all situations I have encountered.

I'll jump in.

Two years ago a friend of mine with a Canon 70D and I took portraits for my LDS Ward (congregation). I was shooting raw and I think he was also, but he may have shot jpeg. His images were oversaturated and were difficult to work with. Mine seemed to accurately represent what the scene was.

Maybe it is just personal preference, but I will buy Nikon in the future.

70D didn't come out until 2013. Maybe a 7D??

New here, and new to Digital, although lots of experience with film.

Got a 70D for Christmas, love it. Wife got a T5i and I love it. Daughter got a Nikon D5200, and my sister shoots a D5000, so I have had a chance to compare Canon vs. Nikon at will for the last 2 months.

To me, the Canon is just more intuitive and fits better. My daughter and sister both like the Nikon better for the same reason. Can't tell a dimes worth of difference between image quality, and we are all in a college Photo class where images are scrutinized very close.
