I am going to upgrade to a new camera and was wondering which would be the best choice, a Nikon D3200 or a Cannon T3i. Both are in the price range that I can afford.I can purchase both bundled at Sams. The Nikon has more mega pixels (24) than the Cannon (18). The Cannon has a tilting led screen that is better for videos. Is there that much difference in the mega pixels for a non professional photographer? Each camera has its plusses and minuses. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with both who would be willing to share. I used to have a Minolta SRT 101 that was all manual so I have some experience in photography. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What is a Cannor?
Cannon is a towel manufacturer;
Canon is a camera manufacturer.

Hi Hafmyne, just looking at those two cameras (oh, it's CANON btw, not Cannon) I would probably go with the Nikon. http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-T3i-vs-Nikon-D3200 That being said, I would compare more cameras in your price range. Possibly buy used or refurbished. Just my thoughts. Cheers.

Get a Brownie and settle the argument.
I believe the Canon T3i is an excellent choice.
High value for the cost.
Tilting screen is very convenient especially when using Tripods.

Or when shooting really low, like flowers. Or when shooting really high, like over a crowd.

Hafnyne, welcome to the Hog. Take two aspirins now, this question is going to make your head hurt.

I shoot with a Canon, because I prefer the Canon lenses.
The articulating screen alone is worth the price of admission. ;-)

That makes it an easy choice, then.

I chose Nikon for the simple fact that it felt better in my hands then the Canon did when I purchased my camera, looked at both and the Canon just didn't have the right feel to it.
Been very happy with my choice ever since.
My advice is to pick one up and see which feels best in your hands.

The opening post said anyone with experience of both, sorry on here it is either one or the other, do not be fooled that those are the only cameras out there, there are others who a few short years ago were not even in the game of cameras but now sit in third place and that of course means Sony ( who make important parts for the other two)but if you have made your mind up on the two you have mentioned see if you can pop along to a camera shop and hold both in your hand and see how they feel and go along with that.

Thank you for your input. Snapfish.com rates the Nikon just ahead of the Canon but My brother who has a Canon says buy the Canon. Ho said go to a store that sells both and handle them and then make the choice.

Hi Hafmyne: Both cameras will offer you great shooting.. You will have supporters & detractors of both brands.. I happen to own & shoot a Canon 5D Markll Which is neither here nor there... Both make quality lenses.. Nikon tends to have for the most part, one high quality grade of lens while Canon offers a wide variety in the quality of lenses ranging from their kit lens to their "L" series professional lens... and the price to go with it... Keep in mind it's going to be the lens that will be your biggest investment... I own 5 different types of lens ranging from a kit telephoto to an "L" series telephoto, a plain old nifty 50 and a quality 100 mm Macro lens.. plus a 24 mm wide angle lens.. My suggestion would be to physically take both camera's in hand and try taking a few shots with each one.. See which is more comfortable for you to use.. The higher pixel count will only be really important if your planning on enlarging you pictures to poster size photos & I doubt the average person would notice that much difference even then.. Here is a great website explaining the different types & qualities of Canon lenses.. http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html Hope this helps some.

Don't just consider the camera body but the lenses to go with. I don't think you will go wrong with either one, although some here will likely differ. I would for go the kit lens and start out with a nice zoom at least 200 mm and may be a 50 mm prime for travel. If you get into landscape - something with at least 24 mm in it's range will do well. I would not worry about the pixel difference between 18 and 24. Canon's newest top of the line is only 18 and Nikon's is 16.

IF you have used an SRT 101 and liked it, I STRONGLY suggest you give Sony a good look.

For what you'd spend on the Nikon or Canon, you can buy a new SLT A65 that will out perform BOTH of them. ;)

Look it up.
