I am a wedding photographer and I shoot many functions, telling you what you need is a touchy subject, using a tripod might be ok but you have to use your own judgment. As for a flash a shoe mount flash is something that you can always use later even if you don't use it at this function, and a flip flash bracket bringing the flash higher keeps the shadows behind your subjects low and reduces red eye. Take a lot of different angles of everyone and of the entire place (inside, outside, the event room etc) I recomend getting there early and take a few test shots set your WB etc. Don't make it hard just make it fun, the more you enjoy doing it the better the outcome. Good luck

My cousin has asked me to take some photos of their Chinese tea ceremony before their wedding. I am a newborn photographer and have absolutely no interest in shooting weddings. They have a photographer for their wedding but just want me to try to get some of their tea ceremony. I have no idea what the lighting is going to be like, as I have never been to a tea ceremony. I'm not sure how intrusive a flash would be either. I plan on bringing my 50mm 1.4 and my 28-75 2.8. I'm also going to try to use my tripod so I don't have to go up too high in iso. Do you think I need a different lens and/or a shoe mount flash? I'm willing to spend some money, not too much, and buy or possibly rent for the weekend. Any suggestions?????

You can go to http://www.precisioncamera.com/ and the will give you an instant quote. They have one price that they replace any parts in order to bring it back to new condition. I droped my camera and broke my lense in half and they were able to repair it for $121. It don't cost any thing to check.

The Hoodman frames are a photographers best tool!! You can adjust your viewfinder for no glasses and never have to pull your glasses off. Just flip up your lens, focus and shoot without taking a chance of dropping or looseing your glasses. You never know when the next shot will come and having to remove your glasses while trying to focus with glasses in hand can be tough. There are a few other brands out there. Its worth checking into.

I bought a special lens that snaps into my viewfinder. This combined with the viewfinder adjustments, provide the correction I need without glasses. I then bought a pair of Hoodman eye glass frames that lets me flip up one of my eyeglass frames. Check this out:

I agree, I have been shooting weddings for many years and there are two types of photos ie Pre wedding the wedding post wedding, are all controlled (photograph). Then the recption are (pictures) I call snapshots.

In the late 70,s when I started my mentor told me the difference between a picture and a photograph is, a photograph you control the lighting, staging, position of your camera and posing if possible. Even landscape you have some control as well as the processing. ( I know with digital we now have more control in pp) A picture is taken of a moment with little or no control of the conditions. So I always say when I am doing a wedding there will be both Photos and Pictures as I understand it. The photos will be what I set up the pictures will be what is going on at the time. Lately I have gotten some backlash from other younger photographers that say there is no difference. I never argue I just smile and go on. I do more weddings than most of them anyway. So here is my guestion is this a old out of date ideal, did my mentor just tell me wrong, or does this hold true, or does it just hold true to a point?

I use rescuePro and I have always had great sucess recovering deleted or reformated cards. Something you need to understand about a memory card is when you wright to it then delete a picture it doesn't delete the whole picture just the indexing, making it look like its gone. Then the next time you write to it it doesn't write over the last picture but continues on until the card is full then it will start over. So as long as you don't totaly fill the card RescuePro can restore the indexing to your deleted or reformated card. Note: rescuePro and many other rescue programs normaly will not restore from a hard drive, but there are programs out there that will pull from a hard drive, it just depends how much you want to spend. You can buy a SanDisk Extreme card and they give you rescuePro program that you can use for one year and you have an excelent fast card. Good luck!!

I finally managed to take what I think may have been some nice sharp pics of a hawk. Problem is, while deleting some blurry shots I somehow deleted a batch of photos, including the hawk. Has anyone had any luck with recovery software such as cardrecovery.com? Also, how do I find the drive letter? Every time I put in a letter (such as c)it won't take it. What do the bright, knowledgeable UHH members do(besides cry?)

Hi, I was in the Navy also, stationed aboard the USS Ajax AR6 (heavy hull repair) in Sasebo, Japan. I was an optical instrument repairman, looking back I should have been a sonar man). Got out in 1964.

When ever we tied up next to a skimmer I went up to see the Instrument repair. I worked with clocks and watches before the navy and enjoyed talking to the clock repair guys. Did you repair cameras on board? I wished I would have served a term on a surface craft. I loved the ocean but never got to see it except once in awhile got to look out the scope.LOL

There has always been post processing and always will be. In the dark room you were able to Dog Burn Sponge try different Papers etc. Adams spent many hours on his photos some years before he released them. Some of his shots were developed printed and released with no post processing. It is the same now, it depends on the final useage. A news or sports photographer worries more on conveying subject matter than what a food, still, wedding or glamour photographer needs. They require every thing purrfect ie lighting, distractors, temperature difference between shade and bright areas and many others that might not be able to control and post processing can and will be nessary at times. I'm a Wedding photographer and I try to get it right the first time because I shoot around 1500 to 2000 shots each wedding so I shoot Raw and jpeg at the same time. The service requires purrfect and needs post processing where some of the pre and post wedding and the reception doesn't. If I post processed all they would have grand children by the time they got their pictures. So to end this! Post processing is needed at times, it depends on the situation and you.

Enclosed is a copy of the receipt for the Nikon zoom lens. It was a bargain at $118.00-----Also, I forgot to disasemble the auto-focus sub assembly, so here's a pic of that little jem. The lens was new by the way, the one I ordered.

Excelent, glad you made out well, thats not a bad price plus you got to play with the broken one. I know there are many photographers out there that would love to take one appart. My lens cost over $1800.00 so it was well worth the repair. But when repair is close to new go new. Keep shooting and have fun.

My camera goes every where I go except to bed (My wife draws the line there) A little over a month ago as I was getting out of my van, I swung my camera bag over the steering wheel and then I heard a crunch. I looked five feet away from me and there was my D300S and my Nikkor 27-70mm f/2.8 lens. The only damage to my camera was a little scrach next to the battery door, but the lens broke in half and was in 6 pieces. I sent the lens to Enfield CT for repair. I now strap my camera in and check the bag closed. I have been shooting for more than 45 years and own more than 150 cameras and this is the first time I damaged one
