I thank you all for the ideas. I think We will make a list, send it out to the kidos and tell them to choose one and that's it. That should work--Right?!?!?!?

I suggested Yellowstone a couple times. We've all been there a number of times and we never get tired of seeing it (Esp. Tetons NP) and its only a day drive for me and 2 sets of kids. I'm still pushing for it.

Thanks

We were supposed to leave today on a 50th Anniversary (actual anniversary is in Nov) trip to Ireland and Scotland. Hopefully it’ll be a 51st Anniversary trip😊

My wife has been wanting to go to Scotland for a while now. With a slew of grand-kids it would be kinda hard to travel around and they probably would not appreciate just looking at old stuff. Kids nowdays have to be entertained.
Maybe we should let the kids send just my wife and me to Scotland by ourselves.

Thnaks for a good idea.

About three years ago I put up that I was taking a photo trip to the Rocky Mountains National Park and asked for suggestions. I had been there some 25 years ago but wanted to brush up on the best places to see. One of the guys on this site told me to forget the park and go to Ouray. I did and what a great area! There are hot springs if someone is interested, 13,000 ft. mountains on two sides of the town. Go south about 45 min. (it took us 3 hrs. as we stopped to take shots), to the town of Silverton. A real old west kind of town with dirt streets. There is a train that runs from Silverton to Durango that is supposed to have great scenery. We didn't ride the train because it doesn't come back to Silverton from Durango. It starts in Durango and loops back to there and we were not prepared to stay overnight in Durango. There are plenty of places in the area where 4 wheelers are required. Old mining towns etc. Between the scenery, the springs, the 4 wheeling, exploration of old mining towns, and the train, I think most of your group would find some things to enjoy. Congratulations on the long marriage and best wishes for a great trip!

Ouray is on of out favorite places to go. We'd go there even in the old day when we lived in Texas. If you ever get the chance take the train ride from Silverton in early October----FANTASTIC!!

Thanks

That would be true ... except for all the kids. They may not understand.

If this happy couple wants it to be about them, they could have a great vacation for two.

It sounds like the OP and his wife want this to be a family affair, celebrating and embracing what they started fifty years ago.

We tried having whole family vacations since the kids have married and have had kids of their own. Usually someone doesn't want to come or someone goes home early and that's Ok with me.
We usually vacation with individual kids/family each year but the kids wanted to do something special for our 50th. To me 50 is just another year and I'd go hang around Cody, but everyone wants to make it a big deal. That's why we started on it early.
Thanks for the comments.

Just about any "outdoor tourist" location offers most of what you seek. I'd suggest New Hampshire's White Mountains and Lake Winnipesaukee that offer everything on your list but I'd bet so do Vermont's Green Mountains and Lake Champlaign. Ditto with the Colorado Rockies and Tetons. By "next summer" do you mean 2021? Because if you mean 2020, COVID may still rule, here in the U.S.

Yeah--Next summer=2021 (thanks)
New England is starting to sound pretty interesting. We have been all cover Colorado, Wyoming and Northern Utah so we are looking for something different.
Thank you.

Acadia NP, Bar Harbor, doesn't hit all the spots but , a trip to remember, can also hit NYC on the way home.

I went to college in Ithaca about 52 years ago-really pretty and a lot to do and see. Haven’t been back for about 40 years, things may have changed.
New England may be a good choice. (Maine is one of 3 states I haven’t been to) We will check out Acadia NP.
Thank you.

That’s one we haven’t thought about. Don’t know much about Canada, have just driven across it a few times going to Alaska. Thanks

Check out Creede, Colorado. My family has been there for a week, in a group of cabins, for over 35 years. Soward Ranch is on the Rio Grande River. Mesa Verde is a day trip. Creede Repertory Theater has matinees and evening performances.
I don't know what effect the coronavirus might have on any of this.

Thank you— we’ll check it out.

Did you try asking your wife??

Yes. She is trying to find a place that has something for everyone. If it were up to me I’d go to Cody, WY.
I keep telling her, “ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself.” After all it is for our anniversary.
