In the olden days, it was a great lens for dark gyms where a high shutter speed was required. It would be good for gymnastics or volleyball. Today my 70-200 2.8 zoom gets my vote.

If you buy it, it will probably end up in the closet as my Nikon mirror did when I purchased one in 1984.

Great answer. Your wife appears to be a clone of my wife.

Think about the person who has to go through your images when you pass. I spent much of my life TDY trying to record places I visited. Today I do not know why I took some of the photos or where they were. Save photos (or make copies) of your family. ID the people. I have family negatives and photos from 1915 and am enjoying scanning them for future generations. I also have photos from history (eg Mount Rushmore being carved; Nixon in Vietnam; Queen Elizabeth trooping the color etc)

Forgetting to verify memory card in camera.

Nikon allows you to set the camera so that it prevents you from taking a photo if no flash card is loaded

This is what I normally photograph and is a shoutout for the new ON1 Photo Raw. 1/1600 D500 F3.2 1.4 extender 70-200 ISO 11400. The photo is cropped and has been published.

I like your lighting and I will try to do better. This is a full-frame developed with ON1 Photo Raw. D500 with 1.4 extender on a 70-200 zoom. Note how the bee collects the pollen on the back legs.

It is prettier in B&W than in color.

My friends son has been saving his money and has 500.00 saved to buy a camera. He is into aviation and wants to take pictures of the moon. Looking for recommendations to get the teenager started.

As a former teenager, I had an Agfa film camera that did not last long until I upgraded. I worked the summer and purchase a Leica III that I could use with my father's lenses. I fully support the purchase of a D300. I have had several and currently use a D500 which I absolutely love. Locally I have rented 300mm and larger lenses. The only problem is that once you use the fancier lenses you will not be happy until you own one.

How many photos of the moon does he plan to take? I would hope he has other interests to make the purchase worthwhile. The above photo was taken with a 400mm at a UVA - Navy game. 72 would go on to play nine years in the NFL.

I change mine. It is important to be on the same time if you are shooting with someone. I also find it easier if I am shooting a game and want to match the event in the box score

I am a sports photographer. I will use RAW in harsh light and at night. I shoot for publication. If a team is wearing white uniforms in bright sunlight I will use RAW to help me with the editing.

Beautiful picture and a pretty bride. Here is a 1965 wedding. I was off to Vietnam eighteen days later on the Gorden.

My granddad gave me a Brownie #2 when I was six. I would walk up to people on the street and ask to take their pictures. At 13 I carried groceries out of the commissary in Germany for tips. I saved the money for a Leica IIIf so I could use my father's lenses. While serving in Vietnam I purchased a Topcon Super D which had a light meter on the mirror. When it stopped working I moved to Nikon After buying several film cameras I have stopped purchasing any more cameras with my D500.
