I shoot RAW almost 100% but I know a lot of people still shoot JPEG. Just a quick poll to see how many are in each camp, and to ask those who shoot both what determining factor makes you shoot one way or the other?

Almost all RAW--I like the possibilities created by editing.

I shoot RAW + JPEG so I have both. I rarely use the JPEG but it's convenient when my wife want the pictures right away. I don't shoot in continuous mode so I never run out of buffer nor running out of space on memory card.

Raw isn't just a file format, it's a way of life. RAW gives a sense of purpose and a sense of belonging to a worldwide community of photographers, all dedicated to maximizing the pixel resolution of their cameras.

I started 20+ years ago using RAW only. I would occasionally try JPG but the results were terrible. Over time as JPG improved I would use it just to follow the improvements. Today I use JPG for all images except a few large prints a year.

Any image that comes directly out of the camera can be improved via post processing IMHO. Additionally, post processing helps in developing one’s creative eye. For these reasons I’ve only shot in raw and will continue to do so.

RAW lets each photographer decide for themselves: are you the finger or the button?

Exclusively RAW, unless a client requests jpg.

Jegs are looking very good for all general-purpose work, today. There is no point in making a ton of work out of every photo shoot unless it is absolutely necessary. For what most people require, which is sending images through the web and looking at them on their computers, or even a few 11x14 prints, a Jpeg works fine.

If there is something difficult in lighting or extra special as a subject matter that will require all the extra work of a RAW file, then I'll shoot that in RAW, as well as Jpeg. When I was shooting weddings, most of my other wedding photographers, if not all, also shot in Jpeg and then where there were a few questionable or critical parts of the wedding day, we would shoot in both.

For a while, doing weddings, I shot in both RAW and Jpeg and used the Jpegs for most things, though had the RAW to fall back on if needed. After a while I got to know where I might need that RAW file and also saw that for the most part, Jpegs sufficed and therefore, stopped doing all images in both. That saved storage space and work load. Now if I have a file that needs some extra work due to lighting situations, I used my NIK single image HDR software to help out and then sandwich the two files to suit my needs.

I think a number of photographers just like saying they shoot in RAW, when in actual fact, they would not need to, but feel they need to belong to a gang to fit in. RAW is great for when you need it, but for a good portion of hobby photographers, their Jpeg files would suffice and shooting in RAW and doing all the extra work just gives them something to do.

I suppose if you are working getting paid by the hour by the client, you work through all your RAW files and use all the drop down boxes and slowly go through those in Photoshop. However, if you are getting paid by the job, you use Jpeg files and use keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop.

After burning out highlight areas on a number of otherwise excellent images I have changed to RAW only. With presets available in LR and now understood the extra work is negligible and result is much better.

100% RAW.
I used to shoot a small jpeg just for reviewing purposes but the RAW files load fast enough with the newer computers nowadays.
Would hate to give up the editing abilities afforded by shooting RAW.
Why would you spend the money for a nice camera and not shoot RAW?
