You have the lenses and camera bodies to do what you want to do. Suggestion: take the bottom 3 lenses and the D700 (or the D300) to your local camera shop (hoping you have one). First tell them you want to buy a remote trigger (bait). Then ask them to show you how to take the picture you want to take using your equipment. Let them actually set it up and show you how to do it, down to the F-stop, Shutter speed, and ISO. I'll bet they won't be able to resist. You'll probably need the trigger but that's cheap. Don't tell them you already have a tri-pod until after they show you using theirs. That 105 is a macro, my guess is they'll use that. Luck!

An Alternative to seeing your hand from the view finder. Pick a spot where you hand will be. Put something there. Put your Camera on the tripod and set the aperture to F8 to start. Focus on the spot where your hand will be. Take your eye away from the view finder. Put your hand in the spot where you focused and preferably use a remote trigger to take the shot or if possible with the D700 set a delayed release for 2 to 5 seconds to take the shot. (I think Forestall was built in my home town :-)

Hello all!
I've been reading UHH for a while now and it looks like a great platform for learning.
I used to be a very active amateur with my n6006, years ago. Life changed and I lost interest, mainly due to the starting evolution of digital.
I'm about to order me a d750 with a 28-300mm lens and will be putting in more time to get better with my photography.

Hey Newby
Welcome aboard. Setting the stage let me say that I had a n6006 years ago too. I also have a D750 and a 28-300mm lens. If you haven't ordered yet, let me offer you a challenge. If you were going to buy 3 lenses in the next year or 2 what would they be? The trinity (14-24, 24-70, 70-200) might be a good mark to plan by. They maybe too expensive but you could chose others that essentially cover that range or larger, but cost less. Once you've done that, is the 28-300 one you'd choose? If so proceed. If not buy one of the 3 in your list.

I offer you this because I wish I had done it. The 28-300 has a very convenient range, but tends to produce results that are sometimes a little soft and it has a focus breathing problem that means you don't usually get the full 300mm at the far end. I've tested it against a 300mm Pf F4 and it is almost always shorter (usually focus breathing is supposed to take place only at minimum focus distance. Not so here).

Just a thought but a good first lens choice may be the 24-120mm F4.

All that, but be confident that you'll have blast with that 750 regardless of your choice.

I'm a Nikon shooter. Assuming you are talking about using a DSLR, Canon will be no easier. The solution is in technique and the right lens. The D700 and D300 are absolutely capable of doing the job you describe. What lenses do you have? Actually moving to a more modern Nikon body would make more sense than switching to Canon and wasting all the glass you have. You'd then have to buy new glass too. If your father had both a D700 and D300 I'd bet he had some pretty good glass. You are going to have to do some research to learn what to buy and then how to use any new gear. A better approach would be to learn what you have and how to use it and then use that to inform your decision about what to buy. Best of luck.

I try to e-mail pictures, they won't go because it says they are too large.Taken with D-7200. ???

Assuming you trying to send Jpegs, they are usually between ~100kb up to 5Mb or larger. If you are sending more than 1 at a time you may exceed the limits of your email system or the recipients. Right Click on the image on your computer and check the size. If they are too large save/Export (in LR) your image as a Jpeg at a smaller size. Luck

Hmm. Does this policy cover your gear outside the home?

If you are asking about the State Farm policy the answer is yes

D90 is a great camera to learn on. Check the shutter count. Look for a reasonable price. If either is too high look for another, they will be out there. I sold mine not to long ago.

I have both the 24-120mm f4 and the 18-200mm version 1. For a basic walk-around I use a 16-80mm f2.8-4 on my D500, it has basically the same field of view as the 24-120mm does on my full frame D750, but is a bit faster on the wide end and much wider than the 24-120 on a DX frame. I find both of those lenses sharper than the 18-200mm. Surprisingly I use the 24-120mm on my D500 when I shoot my grandson’s high-school basketball games. I has just the right reach for a gym and I find it fast enough for the light. I haven’t used the 18-200 much in the last few years because I found the images soft and I hate the way the Version 1 slides open when you are carrying it because it doesn't have the lock that's on the VII.

Have the 16 - 80 f2.8-4 with my D500. Works well as an all around. I've used my 24 - 120 f4 on the 500 shooting my grandson's BBall games. The range was better in a gym, I go to a 28 - 300 or a 300 PF for longer range. A lot of choices but the 16 - 80 spends the most time on my D500. Sharp, light, fast.

Maybe you are new to this country. Here, many generations have stood as a sign of respect when our National Anthem is played.

Most employers have guidelines for their employees dress and conduct while in the performance of their duties. Imagine cashiers, food servers or anyone in the retail or service industry all exercising their rights before providing their services for us? Or maybe there is a list of acceptable actions that are deemed not offensive and widely accepted, no cost, etc. Kind of like a friendly wave or nod with a political protest connotation. Maybe the two word salute conveyed with the adoration displayed while raising ones middle finger is okay as well.

I do not expect to pay for entertainment and be subject to protest displays as a prerequisite to enjoy my purchase. He, and all the others, most certainly do not have to protest in their back yards, but they sure as hell will not hold their forum in my living room and at my expense. Bad enough that I pay my provider to steal a third or more of the time I pay for with commercial ads. I wonder if that is also covered by the 1ST Amendment. I'm not paying for a soapbox for political protests.

I am not at all hostile towards him and even support some of his views, but I am not interested in viewing what I believe is disrespectful to our country, so my reply will be to not watch the event. My right.

They certainly deserve all the rights that I have and hopefully they are able to continue their employment without my support. I simply will not be held captive.
Maybe you are new to this country. Here, many gen... (show quote)

No, not new. My family goes back to the mid-1700's on one side and farther on the other. It also includes Air Force, Naval Officers, Army, who was at Iwo and a Seal. You did know that a Green Beret is the person that advised Kaepernick to kneel. I take no issue with your choice to not view it. That's your right. He's protesting the loss of life. It is bound to make people uncomfortable.

(EDIT: Didn’t realize this was 5 pages of responses. The following hs probably been suggested multiple times.) Just one more hopefully obvious caution. Download those pictures from your SD cards to 2 external drives. They fail too.

I think most would agree with his intentions, but take exception to have it rammed down their throats on national TV that most are paying to watch and essentially disparaging our country. His right...might be more appropriate in another venue.

Virtually every major religion celebrates bending a knee as a sign of respect and adoration. In no other case that I’ve ever been aware of has anyone labeled taking a knee as a sign of disrespect, EVER. His action cost no time, certainly no money. You might want him to protest in his back yard but aren't protest invariably in the most public forum possible? Makes ya' wonder. What generates all the hostility against him? That it's the 1st Amendment? Noooo, couldn't be that. Well what else could it be?

I had a strange tech glitch on my D500 relating to folders the other day, but when I turned it off and back on (might have been twice with a short wait) all was well. Doubt it's the card, probably the camera s/w. That not withstanding, why not set it so your XQD card is primary and your SD Card is a back up. Tends to take the stress out of life. :-)
