I received my Canon T3i this afternoon and now I am scared to death. Two IS lenses (Canon 18-55 IS II and 55-250 IS, two add-on lenses (Zeikos 2X and .45x). Even after a month of research I do not know where to start.

What settings should I start learning to use first, ISO, F Stop, DOF? I am going to read the manual first, seems comprehensive, but then where do I start?

Thanks in advance.

Just keep taking pictures. Practice, practice, practice. The worse you can do is take a bad picture, if this happens, delete it and try again.

Several nights ago I was treated to one of nature's most dramatic spectacles - heat lightning. I was able to capture some great photos. Attached is my favorite.

Put a figure of Jesus and some angels in the middle of this and you have the second comming.

When we see old buildings like this that we want to someday photograpy, do it then. I used to pass an old cabin by the side of the road in the mountains by me. After years of passing it, I stopped and photographed it from several spots. The next week it was gone! I always am glad I stopped when I did. If I had waited I would have lost out!
P.S. I love the shot you took. Thanks for sharing.

OK lookin for critiques.

You have a nice documentry photo. If you want a work of art, you need to do less background and do something to focus on the pot of eggs. (Not that I did a good job) This is just a suggestion. I know that many of the people that use this forum do much better work and could show you better examples. This is just the observation of a snap shot shooter!

just a suggestion

Millions of people take snapshots daily. Millions of people would like to improve on their snapshots. I am one of those millions. I would like my family and friends to look at my photos and say something to the effect that they are really good. That is why I joined this forum, to improve my 'snapshots'. After all, I do not expect to make a living with photography. I just want to take a decent photo.

Good work, I can only think of one thing that would improve them! That one thing is that if they were mine! Keep on practicing with that new camera and you will see improvement even over these great shots! I like the way the action was stopped with minimum blur with it being hand held.

I really like your work. I like the "Another Bristlecone" where you made another bristlecone photo really interesting! Bristlecones are subjects of many photos, but yours stands out.
I also really like "Jake the tom cat". Like I said about the bristlecone, there are many photos of cats, but yours really stands out. Very good. I can think of nothing to improve them.

good shots. Looks like you hang out with some fun people. I'll bet all of them are fun to talk to and to be with, just judging from these photos. You did a good job with the technical points of photography. Thanks for shareing.

I love this photo. I can daydream about having a cabin on the shore right there and an old row boat with bamboo pole!
Yes I do find this photo beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I like all three shots of your shell. Did you try putting a light inside the shell to see if it will glow? Seems like fun.
