There are hundreds and hundreds of these little homesteads all over the state of Montana. It's amazing to me that people who settled this area and came along thereafter could live in such a small and uninsulated structure. Especially with how cold it gets out here! However, I think the occupant of this one might have felt a little constrained – if you look closely, it looks like those could be bullet holes in the appliance just inside the left door.

Stark, ethereal, and a bit "Hitchcock-esque". What more could you ask for in a black-and-white mood image?

Really nice capture John, and well done on the black and white. I particularly like the inclusion of the windmill on the left side of the image to balance out the silos. Nicely composed good sir.

I truly enjoy photographing old buildings, barns, farm implements, and similar subjects. And I sometimes am quite surprised at the remoteness of some of these subjects. Why were they built where they were built? Who decided it was a good idea to put them there? What function did they serve? Ah, the old adage – if only they could talk...

I am a great admirer of black-and-white photography, but in this instance, I think the color is much more dramatic and engaging.

Composition and tonal work are really compelling. I might agree with Linda's "cheat" - a little dot on the eyeball goes a long way.
