The thing itself is not a thing; it is an ιδέα (usually translated as a Form in Plato's writings). Portraits are not lies; they are our opinion, (doxa in Plato) of what the person looks like. Plato would have us think about individuality, personality, appearance, reflections--all the notions underlying doing a portrait of someone. (Before I retired I taught the junk discipline of sociology using Plato, Wittgenstein and Heidegger, among others.)

Plato needs to retire to his cave!

Hi all

I have a problem with a Tamron 150-600 G2 lens, used on a Nikon D500. The lens has worked fine up until now. What happens is when zoomed fully to 600mm the autofocus hunts rapidly, never able to lock, if I back the zoom off slightly it achieves lock and is also ok through the rest of the range. I have the camera set up for BBF. Have tried resetting the camera and resetting the lens to default via Tamron tap in unit, lens has latest Firmware. In Live view mode the lens does not hunt so much but still does not achieve good focus at 600mm.
all my other lens work ok, including a Tamron 100-400. I don't have access to another camera to try the lens on, local camera store closed because of lock down. Any suggestions out there in case I am missing something? Otherwise I guess it's back to Tamron.

cheers

Have you tried:
1- Connecting to a dock and checking for a firmware update?
2- Connecting to a dock and re-installing the firmware?
3- Find another Tamron 150-600 G2 lens, perhaps borrow from a friend, and check to make sure it isn't the camera.

I'm annoyed.

My monitor visibly changes color on me from time to time (it's trippy watching the WB fade from obviously blue to obviously yellow and then waver in between a bit) and my printer is printing my not-very-pink kid in shades of deep pink. Note, he's not pink as a rose in real life. I haven't printed a good photo in nearly 2 months as a result of this.

So, beyond obviously needing a stable monitor, what's the good calibration software these days? I'm a hobbyist, I'm not going to dump a grand in to it, but I can easily come up with a good sum in a jiffy.

Check the cable. If that doesn't' fix the issue, replace the cable.
Truly stable monitors are expensive, cables are cheap.

I recently took some images of my new grandchild which were recorded on a Kingston MicroSD card. I was able to review the images in the camera. And I was also able to initially pull them up in photoshop on my computer using a newly purchased 'Merkury' card holder. Then, for some unknown reason, the microchip could not be accessed with a message that it (the SD card) had to be 'formatted'. Of course this would wipe out the images I know are on the card. I tried to transfer images to photoshop again using several other transfer instruments and when I did this I was 'informed' that the card could not be read, or that there were no images on it. So does anyone have an explanation for this occurrence. And if the images are indeed 'lost' can anyone recommend a software program that has been tried and is effective in retrieving 'lost' images from damaged or 'infected' SD cards? Incidentally, there is no way they were deleted. Thanks for the help.

I usually travel one place or another to take action, sports or wildlife pictures. Obviously under the current conditions these options are either not available or not a smart thing for me to do.
We have had a week of rain, adding dreary weather to another wise dreary situation.
This afternoon we were supposed to have thunderstorms, however mother nature gave us a break It ended up being sunny and 68 degrees F!

So, I decided to visit my front yard.

Despite the virus and the self imposed quarantine, Mother Nature comes through.

All pictures were taken with:
EOS 6D MKII

EF100mm F/2.8 L IS USM Macro
SLIK The Professional Tripod Legs
