Thanks, did that at least 10 times. The .exe file won't open at all.

Interesting. I just downloaded the update from their website, unpacked the files and reformatted the card in the camera. Then, I transfer the folder named "firmware" to the card and it updates just fine. Tried it twice with no problem.

Anyone, besides me had any problems extracting the firmware from the dowloaded file from Nikon?

The trick is, after extraction, copy the entire firmware folder to the SD card you are updating from. Normally you would just copy the update file to the SD card but the P1000 is different.

About two months ago, I had the same problem. A good Nikon lens that would not auto focus. After trying to get it fixed, buy a new one, check with all the local stores etc., I went on eBay and bought a used one for less than the cost of fixing my old one, had I been able to get it fixed. I am up and running again and maybe someday when repair shops are operating again, I will send in my damaged lens to be fixed.

I'm a repair tech and sadly to say, the repair shops are gone forever. Soon, Nikon will have only one repair facility, in Thailand! It's a good thing I like to repair camera equipment.

I would not be surprised if a second hand lens in good condition will cost less than repairing your lens. MPB is a reputable dealer and I can say the same of B&H, Adorama and Robert Camera.

I repair these for a living and I'm afraid it's not economical to repair. A quick check on EBay shows them, in good working order, for very little.

Hello All,
I'll be going to Tanzania to work for a few weeks. I'll have weekends free. I'm bringing my fuji digital camera and I plan to shoot some film as well (BW and color). I'm going back and forth on which film camera to bring, a Nikon FE or F2?
Thanks!

The FE is probably more accurate than the F2. It is electronic and more consistent as well. But. being electronic, it will use up batteries and will not work without them, The F2 is a mechanical camera and the workhorse of the Viet Nam war. It has all mechanical speeds and, other than the meter, it works without batteries. Just something to consider if you are going to be in an area without stores around.

I have a Rolleiflex 2.8 D. The shutter is sticking and needs to be cleaned, lubricated and calibrated. KEH Camera claims to repair them and has a service order on their website with a special category named Rolleiflex TLR and a flat fee of $350. On faith I sent mine to them in Smyrna, Georgia. When they get to it (which might be quite a while) they will evaluate it and repair it if they are able. It has been about six weeks but my UPS tracking confirms that they have it now. I will post a report when I know more. You could call them at 770-333-4200.

Previously I found a repair person near San Francisco who quoted $750.00 plus parts. That is more than the camera is worth to me.

I also do complete CLA's on Rolleiflex TLR's and others. And I charge $100 less. If interested, please contact me by private message.

Repair warranties have suffered too. They now only cover parts and labor for 90 days.

Their are also repair people, like me, who will work on these lenses even though they are out of warranty and no longer serviced by Nikon. They do quit servicing products after a certain amount of time.

I want to buy a Nikon Lens, (24-120 VR, f4) however I can not see a USA Warranty? Amazon has a 90 day guarantee, as do some others. I want to be able to "Register" the lens with Nikon, so if there is any problems with the lens in the future.

Dose anyone know a company that offers a "USA Guarantee", with their lenses?

I want to avoid a "Grey Market" lens!

Thanks lots,
Boone.

Most "US" lenses have a serial number that begins with "US", followed by the actual number. I admit, not all Nikon lenses follow this guideline but its a good indicator on many of their lenses.

Any experience with and recommendations for a silicone lubricant for Lens that telescope in elements such as the Panasonic ZS70? I sparingly wiped a good silicone lubricant, using a Q-tip to my Canon 100-400 when it became a tiny bit balky and no more problems. So, I just purchased a Panasonic ZS70 and am considering a bit of lubricant before putting it into service as a point and shoot pocket camera. Yes's and No's appreciated.Thanks.

I don't normally recommend using lubricants of any kind on the exterior of a lens. Silicone is fairly safe but it can compromise the locking mechanism on the zoom. Most of the moving parts are internal anyway and do need occasional maintenance. I work on these all the time and with proper maintenance, a good lens can last a long time.
