Thanks for all the suggestions.

What about importing everything through LR, then going through everything and deleting the folders on the backup HD not wanted?

I'm confused by "I want to import to my backup HD". Where are the files now? Are you making backup copies? Are you trying to move files?

My bad. Sorry.

From my HD on my desktop to my external HD. Not move, just copy.

I finally am getting around to using my LR 6.14 stand alone that has been on my PC for a very long time. This is when I realized that I have about 50,000 photos!

Here is my dilemma. I tried to view the photos I want to import to my backup HD by unchecking those I don't want to import. Suspected dups have been greyed out, so those are not an issue.

When I go to review my photos in LR as a preview and then unchecking those not to be included in the import, it becomes very tedious and at times I lose track and have to start from the beginning. Talk about about pulling my hair out.

I was thinking of doing multiple imports.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to accomplish this task in a easier way?

I do have that on my GS7, just never thought about this as an option.

Since I have time, I'll see if I can get it to work.

Thanks

I'm heading to DC in a few months and will be taking either my wife's Coolpix S9900 or my D5300. Will not be taking my laptop or a tablet.

Is it possible to upload whatever photos taken direct from camera to cloud storage (to be determined which one), and if so, what is the process?

Thanks
Jay

I had a feeling that was the catch. Oh well....

Thanks for the clarification.

Recently I think I saw a post about Topaz Studio Free version. Did a search on UHH, the web and the website for Topaz and was unable to find the link.

Maybe I was dreaming, but if the post/link is still available, could it be re-posted?

Thanks

Didn't think about that. Manchester, NH is the closest store which is about a half hour drive. Next time I'm down that way, I'll stop in.

Hello fellow UHH members.

Since the demise of Pop Photo and Shutterbug magazines in print format, I have been searching for replacements. The only print edition magazine I have is Outdoor Photographer.

Yes, there are many in digital format, but I find it difficult reading off my monitor. Call it "old age", but I like the hardcopy format.

Anyway, I recently received an "invite" to subscribe to DigitalPhotoPro for $15.00/yr.

Does anyone subscribe and what are your comments? Worth the price?

I'll see if I can get the freebie.

I received an email saying I can get 12 issues for $19.99.

Not Shutterbug magazine which ceased publishing. The magazine is called Shutter Magazine.

Good day all you Hoggers.

Is anyone receiving a publication named Shutter Magazine? If you are, is it worth $19.99/year?

Thanks

I just started using BBF on my Nikon D5300 with Sigma 17-70mm Contemporary lens. The issue I have is that Sigma never fixed the problem of the monitor (review screen) shutting off at the set time (4 secs, etc.). It does shut off after about 60 secs though. Makes no difference whether BBF is engaged or not. The work around is to press the shutter button to close the image. Even with this problem, I still like BBF rather than the traditional way.

Thanks for the update, jayw. Are you aware of the other thread started on this same issue?
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-544154-1.html

Yeah, I saw that. Now to update the results of the issue.

It does seem that there is a compatibility issue with this lens and most Nikon bodies.

Took my camera to Hunts Photo to have them check to see if their stock lens of the same type would work by shutting off the monitor in the time set. It didn't work. He took the new lens and put it on another Nikon body and that didn't work either. So it seems that Sigma either never addressed the issue or wasn't able to backwards engineer this part of lens/camera combination. Too bad.

Unfortunately I'm going to have either not use BBF, which I'm beginning to like, or learn to press the shutter button to shut off the monitor so I can refocus whether I use BBF or normal mode.

I never realized this issue until i started to use BBF.

Oh well, live and learn.

I have the MeFoto Globetrotter aluminum version and couldn't be happier. The gear I had was a Nikon D5300 and Tamron 17-300mm zoom. I rarely had to extend the center more than half way, so stability was rarely an issue. I started with the model you're interested in, but took it back and upgraded to Globetrotter. The reason was that the legs were very thin and wobbly for my gear and what I would have used it for.

I'm now using the same body (D5300) and a Sigma 17-70mm Contemporary lens and find the Globetrotter to be extremely stable even with the center raised to the max.

The only complaint I have, which is minor, is that you have to completely remove the rubber feet to use the metal spikes. Most other tripods all you do screw the rubber feet up to expose the metal spike. If I were able to find a replacement like this, I'd consider making the purchase.

Depending on your gear, I'd spend the extra and get the Globetrotter model. I think you'll be very happy with it now and into the future. Plus the warranty is 5 or 6 years I think.
