Think of it this way. You can always step closer with a 50mm, but especially inside, you can’t always step far enough back with an 85mm to get the field of view you desire. Honestly, I find that more true with a 135mm than an 85mm as compared to a 50mm, but based upon what you have described, I think the 50mm would be the more versatile lens for your purposes.

You will throughly enjoy this camera and the grip. The 5DMKIV is my favorite of my four Canon cameras. Now, if you don't have them already, start a collection of L-Series lenses suitable to what you shoot. The L-Series lenses are what really bring that camera to life! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine! Merry Christmas!!!

Unlike you, I put a filter over every lenses I own. Where I live, the elements can be rough on photography equipment. The less I have to touch or clean a lens, the better to me. What I have discovered is that the thinner and harder the glass on a filter the better. There is a difference in a $20.00 filter and one that costs $60.00 to $90.00. I really have grown to like the Breakthrough filters. They are not inexpensive, but they are reasonable. I have been pleased all around with them.

I will say this. By purchasing refurbished, I have upgraded to a higher quality lens a few times with great results as a result of the savings. The warranty pretty much says all in my opinion.

I have never been disappointed with any Sirui products I have purchased.

I love my EOS R, but it is not my go to for shooting sports. It does seem to lag. For now, when shooting sports, I am going to continue to use my more than trusty 5DMKIV and 6DMKII. I will admit that it may just be my inability to use the camera (EOS R), but “for me,” it has not proven to be a good camera for shooting sports compared to my 5DMKIV and 6DMKII. I generally use both cameras with different lens. When shooting sports, I always use single point focus regardless of the camera. However, I love the EOS R for most every other situation. Again, it may just be my inability to use the camera for shooting a fast moving sports event.

I have done this type of photography before at the request of families when a family member could not be present due to age/illness, etc. or a family member could not be present due to distance. I would not agree to take pictures during the actual service. I always request that one family member be present and one representative from the funeral home and no one else. I try to focus on photographs that include flowers, etc. I do take but also limit the number focused directly on the deceased. I don’t depend on this work for my living; therefore, I do not accept pay. I will only do this kind of photography for people I know personally as a favor to them or their family. I generally take my laptop or iPad with me. I will download the images and do any post processing necessary and then deliver the photos directly to the family member either on a jump drive, airdrop, etc. Once they have them and a backup, I delete everything I took in an attempt to avoid some of the scenarios mentioned above in previous posts. I try to be extremely tasteful in how I shoot the situation. I have never felt any disturbing emotions. Death is a part of life.

I hate to admit that I bought one at the very reduced price. Between the time it was ordered and delivered, I pretty much became a full time manual shooter. I have opened the box to look at it, downloaded the app, but LOL, I have never taken it out of the box much less attached it to one of my cameras. I guess I should just to see if it lives up to the prerelease hype!

The EF-S 18-135 is a very sharp and good all around lens for a crop frame camera.

Like some others, I always put my tripod and ball head in its case in my checked luggage. I have never had a problem. I have never carried one when I didn’t check luggage so I can speak of any experience with trying to take it as a carry on item. Regarding cameras and lenses, I NEVER check them. I have had luggage torn to shreds and would not want a camera and lenses subjected to any handling that is capable of destroying a suitcase. As far as TSA inspecting my camera bags, it has varied significantly from airport to airport. I was departing LGA a few months ago and the TSA agent insisted upon inspecting the contents of my camera bag. He then dropped the camera bag. I maintain my composure as livid as I was! Fortunately, the only damage was a jammed lens cover in the filter. A little patience and perseverance prevailed and all was okay. In the future, I will insist on handling the equipment. Happy travels!

First admission... I have a head full of thick gray hair! However, don’t discount me for that! Lol

The quality of the cameras on cell phones is my humble opinion is remarkable considering it is basically an accessory to a phone. These cameras have advanced to the point that they are equal to what an expensive point and shoot camera was just a few short years ago. I now pretty much have a “good” camera at my disposal about 100% of the time. Will my cell phone camera replace my DSLR and Mirrorless cameras? No! But what a wonderful addition to that digital photography arsenal! I really like the camera on my iPhone XS. It has come a long way since my first camera “flip” phone. I have not had a Samsung phone since I bough my first iPhone. I will say this, being that I have nice cameras and good lenses, I don’t base my purchase of a cell/smart phone on the camera alone, but I do want a good camera on the phone. And yes, I will admit that I have made very good 16x20 prints from pictures taken on my 12mp iPhone camera. I can remember when 12mp was a digital standard for expensive DSLRs! Things will only continue to get better. This trend will not be just because of the cameras alone, but also because of the processors and the software accompanying smart phone cameras.

I have the lens. I am very pleased with it. The coatings on it if nothing else make it significantly better. When I can’t carry my EF 100-400 dues to size/length, etc., it is a good alternative with great IQ. I think you would be very pleased.

I always carry two lens at minimum when I travel. I want to carry a small shoulder bag. I have Canon. Although, I have multiple full frame cameras, I carry my T6s Rebel. One, it is a capable camera. Two, I am not subjecting my more expensive equipment to the potential perils of air travel or theft. During my last trip to NY, a homeland security agent dropped my camera bag. Those things do happen. Fortunately, after digging out the lens cap from the filter, no harm was done. I always carry a 10-18 and a 18-135. I also at times carry a 24 mm f2.8 pancake lens for low light situations. I find I can get most any picture I want with this setup and I don’t stress over having my 5DMKIV and expensive L-Series lenses damaged or stolen, etc. I do take a number of SD cards and change them regularly. If a single card went bad or my equipment was stolen or damaged, I have not lost all of my pictures. When traveling, I find less weight and bulk to be a plus. However, I want more than one lens in the event that one stops working for whatever reason.
