Very nice job, what area do you live to have them in such close view? Looks like high altitude by the looks of the trees. I've had my camera now about a yr and haven't been that lucky. Been watching some of the eagle cams around the country, they are interesting to watch. Well done. L.

NW Wisconsin. There were 2 fighting for food with some crows on the side of the road on the way to our house. I sat in the car and took these as I didn't have a tripod with and used the car door for balance.

Are you kidding? Those are beautiful! The first one belongs on a calendar! I'm jealous and I've got these! These are copies of copies. The originals are much sharper. I'm hooked on photographing eagles! I drove 6 hours for those last few. And I'll be going back next fall. I hope you get many more!

Those are GREAT. I would love to catch one flying but I'm not quick enough to follow one. I'd give "anything" to catch one in flight.

Overlook my ignorance but what is BBF?
Back button focus. You can designate a button on the back of your camera to use instead of pressing your shutter half way to focus except BBF holds the focus so you can recompose your image without having to halfway press the shutter again to focus if your subject moves.

Is the Eagle in migration or hangs out in your area? Where are you located?

There seems to be a lot of eagles right now in our area. I live in NW Wisconsin about 25 miles south from the tip of Lake Superior.

One question, are these cropped? And if you still have the original, try putting the Eagle off set with space to the side he's looking. It gives the impression to those viewing, and they wonder, what he's looking at..........

Yes they were cropped. I don't have the originals. However, I usually try and crop with Rule of 3rds in mind, but in this case I was so zoomed in and focused right on the eagle that there really wasn't enough room around him to make that composition.

A couple days after I took these photos, my husband and I were on our way out of town and I "did" have my camera with me. Again, my husband saw a couple eagles in a tree and we turned around so I could try and capture shots again. This time I did crop like the way you suggested. This one was more of a challenge because he was in a tree and I didn't have that sharp blue sky background, but am still pleased with my efforts.

Fantastic, How close were you

He was on a tree right near the road so I would say pretty close at approximately 50 feet.

I have had my Canon Rebel T6s for a year now. I went overboard buying lenses because I didn't know what I wanted or needed. I have a Tamron 70-300 that I thought would come in handy for some longer shots. My husband and I were out the other day (he has wonderful eyes for spotting wildlife). We came across an eagle in a tree, but I didn't have my camera so we went home and got it. The eagle was gone from the spot we saw it, but lo and behold we found it in another spot. My husband pulled over and I just started shooting. I'm teaching myself BBF (back button focus). The only thing I forgot to do is when my husband made noise so I could catch a shot of the eagle in flight, I forgot to change my camera to "shutter priority." All in all, I am very pleased with my shots. There was no post editing done on these except cropping. Any opinions are welcome to this newbie.

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked reviews on the EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 IS USM lens. They showed that it was a very good lens just short of the L series. Found it for $200 used. Will use it in Tuscon when my son's baseball team play in March!

I am also selling my Tamron SP 70-300 mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD lens for $225. I bought it brand new last April from Best Buy and have only used it a handful of times. I went on a buying craze when I bought my Canon Rebel T6s in March. The lens is too heavy for me so I decided on the 55-250 instead. If something falls through on your other deal, let me know.

I downloaded the Canon Camera Connect to my Samsung phone first and could use my phone as a remote shutter plus transfer pics over. Then I downloaded the app to my iPad. I had issues connecting it so called Canon support and they stepped me through it. Now they both work. I wouldn't have been able to figure it out myself how to get two gadgets connected. Remember...it works through WiFi and not Bluetooth.

Even the best photographers get very little great work without some degree of post processing. What comes out of the camera is just a milestone on the journey. I certainly have more to learn than I know. Time is my biggest problem right now. If I had enough time available I might discover my other problems!

I don't know why, but I always thought the great photos I see posted were straight out of camera. I've used Photoshop Elements to tweak my photos when I had my point and shoot camera most of the time, but actually thought (that's how new this is to me) that you didn't need to do any tweaking with an expensive camera. That's why I was so disappointed when I first got my camera. I thought my new DSLR would put an end to all that tweaking. Boy, was I wrong. Now I find when I shoot in RAW, that even upping the clarity and saturation just a wee bit and/or monkeying with the blacks, white, and shadows a bit makes a huge improvement.

Again, thank you for all your suggestions and exercises I can do to better my shooting. Happy Holidays!

Very nice. First image especially. Perhaps you were a little too self depricating by calling yourself a beginner!

Have a great photographic new year!

Thanks! I take dozens of photos to try and get that perfect one. That's what I like the most about digital photography. I shoot in both RAW and jpg so I can tweak if I see fit, which is a nice challenge for me. Before I got my T6s, I thought everybody's photos were straight out of camera until I found out most photos are post-edited. I think that is why I was so disappointed when I bought the camera. My photos didn't even come close to most I had seen posted. That is why I thought it was the camera, not the lens or the person behind the camera. When I take a nice photo, I feel really good that I "am" learning.

Thanks EVERYONE for all your generous advice. I guess I was thinking I needed a better camera. I've decided to save my money and look at purchasing better lenses as I grow. I guess I am happy with my images. Just need to learn more about composition and shooting in low light and eventually learn manual control. I basically shoot aperture priority and "sometimes" shutter priority. I think I've shot auto twice when I was in a hurry.

I am attaching a few of my photos taken with different lenses. I'm happy with what I've accomplished in the past 9 months since getting my T6s. I look forward to learning a lot more on this forum.

Again, thanks everyone and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
