An easy way to see what the problem is....just turn it around, mount it reversed on the lens.
Jim you left the water running

Could you try a little higher? My initial thinking was that he would be looking straight at the moon, but it make create that visual conflict. What if you made it a horizontal shot?
Your eye bounces from the pointed beak to the moon and back again. Please note the GBH and the moon have been placed on 1/3 power points. That does not work. Anywhere on the right side causes the viewers eye to bounce or fight for dominance. You are welcome to download the pic and try it for yourself. If you find a pleasing arrangement please post it and show me. I tried the GBH on the lower 1/3 point and the moon on the upper 1/3 point, did not work for me.

Could you move the moon all the way over to the right of the image and let the bird be looking at it?
Kind of what you requested tomcat, might be lower than what you had in mind. I have visual conflict with the same height.

I have watched the nest for months and the great event finally occurred, she took flight. The last GBH to leave the nest. I was so focused on her maiden flight I did not see the gibbious moon until I looked away. Hand holding a BIF at 560 is all encompassing for me, only after she landed in the tree did I take my eye away. Then I noticed the moon and imagination replaced vision with less than optimum results. Photo focus stacking is really the realm of image creation not image capture but that is a very hazy gray line. The capture of the image in the minds' eye is often different from the image first presented as captured by the eye of the camera. Once started on the path of image creation where does one stop.

Glad you liked it WDCash, thanks for the nice comment

Beautiful result! As long as the GBH doesn't care, why should you?
I think the GBH was just trying to figure out "what next" and did not see me move the moon UTMike. I am glad you found the result pleasing.

Nice.
(How would I know, other than if you said "looking North"?
Even then, it would not matter to me.

Thanks for looking Longshadow, the first comment most people ask me "did you photo shop it". Very knowledgeable guess, I was looking north east.

It's your image. Do what you like to it. I'm sure the Gulf Coast will forgive you eventually 😇
Linda you say the nicest things, Thanks for looking and commenting.

Yes I moved the moon and now the Gulf coast is flooding.
