Nice shot of the Pier Brent.

Got off work early on fri 25/11/16 and sky looked promising, getting dark here early (around 16:40) so nipped down to the Oa Peninsula and managed to grab this image (nikon 7200 sigma 10-20) before it got dark. The tower to the right is the American Monument and was put up in the 1920's the plaque on it reads ;

Woodrow Plaque American Monument Sacred to the immortal memory of those American Soldiers and Sailors who gave their lives for their country in the wrecks of the transports Tuscania (feb 5th 1918) and Otranto (October 6th 1918). The monument was erected by The American Red Cross near the spot where so many of the victims of the disasters sleep in everlasting peace.

So follow the sun for 2000 odd miles and you would land in newfoundand, quite a view..

I have PSE 14 too works Ok. Then I heard of Affinity Photo which is available in Beta and it is an equivalent of PS and you don't have to pay subscription.

Hello, all. I am fairly new at UHH. I have used a version of PSE for 8 years to do my post processing. It seems to do the things that I want and is reasonably priced. I'm currently on version 14. It has a glitch that won't do panoramas, but I go to an earlier version for that and then return to 14. I have gone through some earlier threads on PS CC and Lightoom vs Elements, but did not really get a definitive feel for if I should just stay with what I have. I would not want to pay for a monthly subscription to add another program. I shoot with a Canon 6D/16-35mm zoom and a Nikon D7200/18-200mm. You can check out a good sampling of my photos at https://500px.com/drg7771 to see if there are things that I could do better with my post processing. Do you think I am good with PSE 14, or is it worth it to change or add another program?

Hi Jerry.....I was just trying to get aquainted with HDR. Yes you are correct that I should have use saturation and leveling to achieve a well balance picture. The HDR came out good but it might be better to tweak it a bit on what you suggest. Thanks.

Somewhat a ditto of other responses. I really like the composition. It is the type of road I loved to travel on when I had a convertible (with top down). Your results bring out the colors very well.

I am curious about why you chose to use HDR for your processing when all the image needed was some tonal tweaking (vibrance, saturation, etc.). I'm not complaining, because the results are great, but curious about the thinking that made you say to yourself, that HDR is the way to make the image what you want it to be. Is there something in the image that said HDR will fix this (other than slightly washed out original)?

. . . of Slovenia. Spent less than 24 hours in Piran on the SW Slovenian coast. It was raining upon arrival, things improved after dark and then sun this AM during the hour and a half we had. One of the men went to a professional conference and asked if I wanted to go along. I owe him big time for this. Only periods of downpour kept me off the streets. Piran is one of the oldest cities in Slovenia and one of the most popular tourist attractions. Slovenian and Italian are both official languages as in the past the town was a heavy majority Italian speaking one. Will be processing photos for a while after this trip.

Main camera is Nikon D3300 which replaced a much-loved D70 when the repair cost overran the cost of a new camera. 3 lenses but my go to is the 70/300mm. Many trips to a favorite game reserve (Londolozi) in South Africa have provided some great animal shots. I also like 'faces' and the 300mm is great for this. Right now I'm trying to figure out why my background clouds (behind the super moon) are purplish. I tend to shoot with aperture as my choice of setting. Biggest photo issue today is finding a point and shoot with EASILY ACCESSIBLE BUILT-IN WIFI. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes. Better save and make a copy of the original RAW and edit from the copy. This way, the copied version if not to your liking, you still have the original RAW. If you edit from the original RAW and did not use the SAVE AS, then it is called a destructive approach.

I use a Canon SX50 HS. I'm about to try post processing in DPP and/or Fast Stone. I have saved each image as JPEG and RAW. A basic question: Is it better to make a copy of the original RAW image and edit that or simply edit the original RAW image with the understanding that the original image information will still be contained in the edited version?
