Took your advice and moved up to the D7200

The big brown truck delivered my D7200 last evening and it was hard for me to put it down after exploring all the features this camera has over my old D7000. I honestly had no complaints with the 7000, but the 7200 is in a whole other class. Luckily I also got Bert Sirkin's D7200 Cheatsheet so I was able to use features it would have otherwise taken me hours to figure out from the Nikon manual.
The real test will be next week when I've volunteered to take pics at the regional children's hospital for their annual holiday party. Since I'll be taking both stills and video (there will be a full stage band and a lot of families want holiday pictures with their kids who are hospitalized long -term), it should be a good test. Just to be sure, I'll be using a battery grip so that I have extra power without having to swap out batteries (thank you Nikon for using the same battery in D7XXX cameras).
Thanks again to all for your suggestions and Happy Thanksgiving

Congrats on the new camera. As you probably already know, take several sample photos trying to emulate what you are likely to find at your hospital shoot. (I would recommend this regardless of getting a new camera, but with the new camera, it will aid in getting your settings right. Enjoy the new camera.

Congrats, I've had mine for over a year and really love using it. Lot to learn but lots of fun.

You got yourself a good camera. Enjoy it. CreativeLive has a good video detailing how to use all its features. As for the cheatsheet, I always make up my own. I enter the info I may not remember when I need it and put it all on a triple-fold, six-sided, laminated card about the size of a business card. It's a nuisance getting it formatted correctly, but then I save the blank for other cameras.

I have a D7200 as well, and I love it! I have been lamenting over the last week though for not doing more research before purchasing it. Just because now I "wish" I had gotten the full frame D700. My D60 (a gift several years ago) was good too (still have it) but I was ready for something more. I didn't realize at the time that is was a cropped frame- didn't even know there was such a thing, as I was a total hobbyist. I'm getting more into photography now and after reading all the cropped vs. full frame convos- I want the D700 now, too. Though my husband is not near as passionate about my "hobby"... sigh....But I am looking everywhere for a good used one. I LOVE my camera but feel as though I may be missing out, not having a full frame. I haven't utilized the 7200 like I know it can be. Maybe a cheat sheet is what I need as well. Have FUN with your new camera!

Would also appreciate your cheat sheet, if you don't mind. Either way, enjoy your new toy!! Stan

Great camera! You will enjoy it, especially the U1 and U2 selections. Have loaded settings for outdoors portrait-type shots in U1. I have indoor portrait and family action shots in U2. I have the battery grip. Yes, you should have over 2,000 shots with both batteries fully charged. Bring extra chips.

What will you use for glass at your upcoming photo opportunities? Flash/lighting?Do not be afraid to try low-light shots. I luv my 35mm f1.8 for indoor natural light (incandescent or floor). Watch your White Balance settings! I also use my SB700. I use theo n-camera flash to trigger it, so it may be placed unobtrusively to properly fill the scene with light!

Goodluck and enjoy this fine camera!

Thanks for the info. I'll be curious to see how it works out. I currently use a D5200 and want to step it up to a D7200. At the moment I waiting until after the holidays to see if the mysterious D7300 comes out with the flip scree that the D5200 has. I took a look at a D7200 and really liked the feel as well as the viewfinder. I wear glasses and framing is a bit of a challenge with the D5200 at times so framing my shots are frequently off... Think I'll post if anyone knows about the D7300 coming out.... Though the D7200 is really nice...

Congratulations on your new D7200. I have the D7100 but would like to have the larger buffer that the D7200 has.
