Took this a couple nights ago down by lake Keowee (SC). First time trying to obtain Star trails. Took 330 images at 20 sec exposure and stacked the results in Starstax program.

I actually just bought the MSM mount kit. Heard about it from www.nationalparksatnight.com on their gift guide this year. Watched a couple videos and decided it was worth a shot. However, it has been cold enough to freeze the balls off a pool table, so I have yet to use it.

😂😂😂. I can understand that after living in the NE for most of my life. Now in SC!

Took these pictures last night of Jupiter and Saturn with a 70-200 mm lens at full zoom. Could see a couple of the Jupiter moons but Saturn (upper left) is pretty much a blur. I took a separate shot of the lake and background with a 55 mm lens and composited the two planets into it. Sky was nice and clear. Hope they stay that way as they move closer.

Ditto on MSM, but I do have a SkyGuider and a Skyguider pro. Both work well, I’ve only used the sKyGuider with an 85mm lense on a canon, the skyguider pro I’ve pushed with a William optics 71mm scope and it handled it well.

Thanks - that is the tracker that I have been considering - skyguider pro. Do you use a separate guide scope/camera setup? The ASIair looks interesting for better guiding with that setup. Also, is the WO 71 the new redcat scope? I have read some unflattering reviews on the redcat 51, mostly rampant quality issues.

I was considering purchasing this tracker and interested in your experience so far. I see no one responded to your quirky.

Does anyone use the MSM mount for shooting Milky Way and deep space objects? Curious how it is with long lens usage in particular. I have looked at the Ioptron skyguider mount and would also appreciate any experience with that mount as well.

Was taking some pictures in Westminster, SC . I noted a couple of Turkey vultures perching at the very top section of the water tower. Grabbed the 70-200 and took a few shots. I liked this one where they both had their wings extended in an apparent stare down! Had to crop quite a bit so the focus is not that great.

I am a fan of Topaz many products....they have Adjust AI, Sharpen AI, Gigapixel AI....etc. From the pictures used, when I look at the downloaded original that is posted and expand it to look at the exploded center section used as the example, it does not look like the pre-Topaz AI applied image at all. Good ad for Topaz though! 😁😁

Technology will continue and probably at a higher rate than the past few years. Smart phones will get even better. Expect much smaller and powerful cameras. Software will be able to transform images quickly and automatically into various looks and formats. But, I’m one of those “mature” Photographers and expect to do it the old fashion way for a few more years anyway! 😁

A very nice photo, Rus! I like the colors. Did you use a flash?
Also rather unusual to see a hummingbird getting rid of a yellow jacket. I have never seen this - whenever yellow jackets attack my hummingbird feeders, the birds always fly away.
Thank you for sharing this special event!

On this one I did use a flash. I set my speed light on a tripod about 3+ ft from the feeder. My camera was set at 3200 ISO, f8, and 1/5000 sec and the camera was about 15 ft from the feeder. I had pre focused (70-200 at about 200mm) at the feeder and took single shots as the hummer came in to the feeder. This guy actually had the bee as he flew into the feeder. The shot coming in wasn’t focused the best as he was not in the best focus area yet. He fed from the feeder with the bee still speared on his beak. I have never seen this before and surprised he went after a bee that size.

Someone has posted a link to a video about the amazing Hummingbird, it is in the Chit-Chat section today.

Very interesting! Love the slow motion shots. Indeed incredible birds. Thanks for pointing this out!
