Ah, yes, I do the same thing in between focus bracketing sets!

We should start a new thread. "Show us pictures of your out of focus fingers!"

Mike

Thank you! I think you get the prize! I normally hold my hand completely over so there is no image. Since my shutter speed was 1/10, that could explain the blur/streak. Apparently, I waited a little too long to cover the lens completely.

Yes, you go ahead and start the thread. I'll contribute! :)

OK. Could it be your hand in front of the lens? That happens to the best of us occasionally.

Mike

Although I don't recall doing it for this particular set, I sometimes block the lens with my hand to mark the beginning and/or end of a set in case I want to do a blend in PS. It helps to locate the set. The streaks do look finger-ish, don't they? That makes more sense than anything else I can think of.

I would think lens flare, but the lower streak shows below the main streak in the image. I think it is a sticky shutter or mirror. Try setting your Canon to Mirror Up when you shoot

It was in live view, so the mirror would have been up, right?

Lens flare, I would say. You were shooting toward the sun. The first image has no problem, but in the second image you were pointing the camera just slightly more to the right, toward the sun, and you got flare - light bouncing around in the lens.

Mike

Actually, the camera didn't move. I cropped and straightened the photo which may give the appearance the camera moved. The sun was pretty much overhead.

Did you have the lens hood properly installed for these images?

Yes, I did. Only this 1 image out of 5 showed these streaks. The camera never moved--husband only started to get up. As you can see, he is blurred because of that.

My husband and I came across this fireplace chimney while driving on some back roads in the Arkansas Ozarks. I took 5 photos within a minute of him seated on the hearth. The first 4 images are normal, but the 5th one has mysterious (to me, at least) light streaks. The images following these are perfectly normal. The only difference I can think of is that hubby moved during the 5th exposure. Could that have somehow caused these streaks? I don't believe in apparitions, but I can't figure this out. Ideas? Shot with a Canon 6D Mk II and Canon f4L 24-105mm lens. ISO 100, shutter 1/10, aperture f/13.

I bought a Nest nt6324CT CF in last Jan, 2019 after reading glowing reviews on UHH. After the 3rd outing the meddle twist leg lock ring separated from the tripod. I can't screw it back on, so the bottom half of the ring can grasp the leg but the top half just slides off (yes, the white clips are properly attached). Where can it be serviced?

I had the same issue. An engineer friend of mine figured out how to put it back together correctly. I had it "almost right". I am very careful now about how I twist the locks!

I live in a remote farming area, and the locations I visit at night are on private property (with permission). I don't fear attacks by people, but it is a little unnerving when the coyotes begin to howl in fairly close proximity. Since I usually do go alone and cell service is sketchy, I take our SPOT tracker (bought for husband who likes to hunt at night). It is fastened to my clothing so I don't lose it. It can send customized messages, track my location, and it has an SOS button if I should fall and injure myself. Thankfully, so far I haven't had to use it. It does give me a certain feeling of security.

I bravely fought off a GAS attack for the EOS R that was on sale. Reasoned with myself that my Canon 7D Mk II and Canon 6D Mk II are sufficient for now. I'll wait awhile for a later model. I (ahem, my husband) did buy a used Tamron 15-30 f2.8 G2 lens and a Canon 1.4x III extender. I was very pleasantly surprised that I could hand hold the 7d Mk II with 100-400 II lens with the extender with pretty good results. Now, for playtime!

Does anyone here use the 6D Mark II? If so, how do you like it, and what are some good all-purpose zoom lenses? If I decide to go with it, I’ll start with one good zoom I can leave on most of the time and one good portrait lens, and build from there. I was also looking at Nikon D850 & have the zoom & portrait prime to go with it, but got screwed over by an Amazon 3rd Party seller who listed a used D850 around the price of the Canon I budgeted for, then never sent the camera. The Sony A7 riii was also in the running, but I’m afraid it’s out of my price range right now.
Does anyone here use the 6D Mark II? If so, how do... (show quote)

Love my 6DII. I have the 24-105 Mk ii lens, and it stays on this camera all the time. I have the 7D II for wildlife/action shots. I think the noise issue is way over blown. The only time I have had a problem is if I have under exposed photos or (obviously) super high ISO shots. Once you have that fully articulating touch screen, it makes it hard to want a camera without it.

Good morning all! I am heading to the Smoky Mountains next week and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about some interesting spots to visit for the three days I will be there. I have never visited there in March. Thank you in advance for your time.

When you visit Cades Cove, early morning is beautiful and not crowded that time of day.

Same outing that produced the caterpillar I posted earlier.

What focus stacking software do you use? I am still using stand alone Lightroom 6 and was thinking of adding Helicon as a plugin. Your input would be appreciated.

I was wondering if any UHH members have been to Merritt Island near Cape Kennedy in Florida for bird pictures. How does it compare to Gator Land which has a very large rookery? Input would be appreciated.

I was at Merritt Island 2 weeks ago in the late afternoon. I was disappointed that there were so very few birds there this year (got a great sunset picture there). I went there same date in 2017, and there were birds of every size, shape, color there. It was amazing. I am from north Arkansas (go to Melbourne every Feb for a gourd festival) and commented to a local lady about this. She mentioned what one of the other responders did - that it is hit and miss. I am wondering if things might have been different if I had been able to go there early morning. I also noticed that Merritt Island had much less water 2018 vs 2017.

I love Viera wetlands also, but I didn't get a chance to visit there this year.
