Does anyone here use the 6D Mark II? If so, how do you like it, and what are some good all-purpose zoom lenses? If I decide to go with it, I’ll start with one good zoom I can leave on most of the time and one good portrait lens, and build from there. I was also looking at Nikon D850 & have the zoom & portrait prime to go with it, but got screwed over by an Amazon 3rd Party seller who listed a used D850 around the price of the Canon I budgeted for, then never sent the camera. The Sony A7 riii was also in the running, but I’m afraid it’s out of my price range right now.

If you don't need the touch screen on the Canon 6D MKii a better buy and better camera would the Nikon D750.

My local camera store says their customers love their 6DIIs. I used the 6D over 4 years but decided to be act like I had money and upgraded to the 5DIV.

With the 6D (and my 5DIV) my lens for everything but birds and macro is the 24-105L. I have gone all day at events without changing lenses.

My "covers everything" kit was the 24-105, 100-400(and 1.4x) and for special occasions a fast 14 mm and a 50 1.8. I would love to have the 11-24L but do very little wide angle work and can't justify the price so my 14mm 2.8 will just be shoe horned into any wide angle stuff I need to do.

I have a 6D2, moved from a 7D2. I'm happy with decision, most used lense is EF 24-105 F4L. My prime lense is EF 50mm F2.5 macro (been a long long time favorite for me). Have other lenses that fill the gaps but not used as much.
For some reason I just didn't favor the 7D2, nice camera but....

I have one and my favorite feature is the articulated touch screen. I have a few cameras with the articulated touch screen and once you get use to one, they come in real handy. Another nice feature about the 6D II is how light it is. Of course if you are going to hang a good zoom off it the weight goes way up but if you are starting with a lighter body, the overall weight is reduced.
I'm not sure I know what "you" consider a good all purpose zoom. Good zoom lenses are fairly expensive. A really good Canon zoom lens for the money is the EF 24-105 IS STM. It's optically about as good as its far more expensive cousin, the 24-104L II except it's not weather sealed and it doesn't have a red band. For portraits the EF 85 1.8 is a darn good value for the money. I personally use an EF 85 1.2 but the 1.8 will produce exceptional results and it's a boatload less expensive than the 1.2. My favorite all purpose Canon lens is the EF 28-300L. It's super versatile but it's also very expensive.
Canon also offers factory refurbished cameras and lenses. They are good as new, have the same warranty as new and are usually several hundred dollars cheaper.

The articulated touch screen was one of my favorite things about the Canon. I’ve never shot Nikon, but was going to try it when it was on Amazon for such a low price. I’ll have to look up the D750, but I know the D810 didn’t have built in WiFi either, & I use that a lot to transfer pictures.

Thank you!! The 24-105 LII is the lens I’ve researched, & I was hoping someone knew of one just as good but less expensive.
The 85 1.8 is also what I was looking at. I just never know if maybe there’s a hidden gem in a different brand even that is less expensive, although I haven’t read about any.

What do you mainly shoot with the 50 macro?

Yes the 6D2 is light weight to me compared to my prior 7D2, and think fairly close to the Sony A7, a review had the 6D2 105 grams heavier and fractions of an inch bigger in all dimensions.
The 6D2 has for me a very good feel in use also.

I use the 50mm 2.5 macro for family event shooting, sometimes portraits where you can get really close (about 9"s) or back off for normal portraits, lense provides a very sharp image. Think currently not being produced, but my daughter recently got one used...

Bridie, I think you’re on the right track!
But first, you need to know I’ve never even picked up a 6D! LoL
But you also need to know that I’ve owned at least a few Canons and have NEVER handle on before buying it. How it feels in my hands is NOT IMPORTANT to me.
But I read about them as much as anyone else does.
When the original 6D came out, Canon was billing it as a travel camera because it was smaller and lighter than their other DSLR’s. Plus it had features a travel camera might need like WiFi and the articulating screen, not just touch. The mkll has a FULLY articulating screen, something the Nikon 750 does not.
The 6ll has a focus array that can handle lightweight sports, something the mkl was very poor at.
If I could only have one lens, it would be the 24-105 but I couldn’t have just one, I’d also need a 50 1.8 or 1.4 to handle the indoor shooting.
Let’s not forget that the Canon system runs deeper than the Nikon system with matching printers, papers and inks, and having the tech for everything under one roof is a bid advantage when things aren’t going right or we just need help at multiple levels!!
THATS why more pros shoot Canon and amatuers should seriously consider their reasons too! Good luck

Another oldie but goodie is the EF 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS USM. They've been around for about 20 years so there are a lot of good used ones out there. I've had one for many years and I've always been impressed by it.

I’ve read a number of reviews that say the Mkii does not do as well as the 6D as far as noise and at higher ISO. I was even advised by a top astrophysics that the 6D outperforms the 6Dmkii for Astro photo and is better than the 5DMii.
I just picked up a used 6D for $600 with 2100 clicks.
