Use a folding tripod type stool if you have one and just lower your tripod to that sitting height. If anyone questions you just tell them you need to shoot them straight on and they are shorter than you! I bet no one has anything negative to say then

Relevant advice!

Hmmm, sitting on a 3046 (I have 2 of those), but I want that 3058 in his lap! I also have the 3021 he is holding.

well get the 3058 you probably need for you gaint (800mm)

I am pretty shakey especially with longer lenses. In the pic below, I focused on the left eye of the cat, right eye to us, and the cat looks pretty good. The Iris leaves to the right show what looks to me like camera shake. How can that be when the cat is pretty sharp? Or am I wrong and it is something else.

It is definality DOF . what was you Fstop and your lens lenth how many mm was it shot at??? Check that info.

Welcome to Day 94 :) It's Telephoto Tuesday on our dedicated challenge month. I think we pretty much agree that means bringing something in the far distance a bit closer. For me that means landscapes, but feel free to photograph whatever it means to you. Y'all are excellent photographers .. and I really enjoy the photos you choose to share with us. :) Here are a few examples to get us started. I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with.
This should be a wonderful look around the countryside.

Are you SURE that your dust is not on the mirror? If you are sure, then you can take your viewfinder out; I'd recommend using a pair of "focusing screen tweezers"; I got mine off line.

Beware that it's easy to get MORE dust on the focusing screen by taking it out...(not to mention scratching it also (I did both.)

How do you get something "off line " ?? lol

If it is the old version without OS you need to be careful about back focus issues with it, that was a problem with them. If at all possible take a couple sample shots and check the focus on a computer screen. Also check the zoom operation, they had a problem with screws backing out and making the zoom sticky at points, eventually the loose screw can fall out and jamb the zoom completely causing a $200 repair job.
Other than that its a nice lens and faster glass than the newer OS version. I used one for a long time before moving to the 150-500mm OS model in January.

Just wondering if anyone here has used the "SigMonster" as its called. The Sigma 800mm F5.6 EX APO HSM lens. I have been reading reviews and ogling it for some time now and finally pulled the trigger on one this morning and was just looking for a little first hand info.
All the reviews I have seen compare it essentailly equally to the Nikon 600mm F4 when used at F5.6 and out. Sure hoping that is true. I should have it by the end of next week, they ship directly from Sigma, Japan this Friday.

If we have clear skies next full moon, and just after, I will see what I can get with it. Might need a doubler though.
Lets see....800x2=1600mm, add the 1.5X crop factor and it comes out 2400mm!!!!! Yep, that would shoot the moon! LOL

At 2400 mm you would probably just get part of the moon...lol

I have telescopes with less power, congratulations. That is a hefty lens to be putting on a camera and you must have a good tripod to mount it on, but what kind of tripod head will you use? I wish I could afford one; the wife gives me problems just spending $1,700 for a lens.

I have a Gimbal to use it on. With my D7000 it will be a 14 pound setup, not for sissies! LOL
And it was a rare factory refurb, lets just say it was definitely priced right!

You take a pnoto though a fence of a subject , a pet or child etc. You focus on the subject to a set you f stop to shallow DOF so that the fence becomes invisable. right . so far good . Now every one is going on about and worryed about a little dirt lens to make the picture bad. But this works the same way as the fence, it does not effect you photo unless It is really dirt and cruddy from several year of dirt build up.This is not a proven fact ...just a though???
