But from what I've seen, the disadvantages include pricier tickets. I would take the train from Albany to Salt Lake City for my annual Idaho-Jackson trek (actually series of parties with friends,) except that the sleeper cabins are as expensive as a 1st class plane ticket. But 3 days in a day coach seat is not a good idea for someone who is technically elderly. (And, yes, I've looked into it because of the TSA & airline carry-on restrictions in the past several years.)
