Wow! Thanks. That was helpful. We have 3G and 4g but I don't know about that other stuff.

The reason I inquired in the first place was because I was reading some tech news from US and I couldn't believe my eyes. Someone was selling iPhones (4s) for $99 - $200 depending on the capacity. They retail here from $799 for a 16gb 4S to $1000 for 64gb So back to my question - curiosity only, - any ideas what you would pay for the 4s 16gb, bearing in mind that in 5 weeks the 5 will be on the market?

An Iphone from a reliable US seller is going to be at least $500. Or, if you sign up for a two-year contract with a well-known mobile company, they'll charge $200 for the phone plus $100 per month for service.

I don't think your prices are too far off. They're terribly expensive no matter where you are. :(

<--- wants one, is too cheap to buy one.

hey so if we don't who will? If we the people who (based on this small sample of the Hog) can see some of the more obvious problems and do nothing.....just watch and observe the grand experiment fall apart as greed and fear become the coin of the land? Or do we find ways to join hands - raise unified voices - do more than simply vote - but demand accountability and put teeth behind it.

We're going to get accountability, whether we demand it or not.

Either we can make some tough choices and minimize the damage to those who are least able to cope (the elderly and the disabled), or we make NO tough choices and the "grand experiment falls apart".

If we stay on Obama's path, we're going to follow Greece to civil unrest and economic collapse.

I'm thinking of his history of championing changing MediCare and Social Security. I'm thinking the Democrats will play that up big and it will hurt the Republican ticket.

Do you mean the Dems will keep lying about it, like they've been doing since Ryan advocated said changes? Like the nonsense about "throwing Granny off the cliff"?

If you do, I agree with you.

If Romney and Ryan can keep themselves focused on the economy, and all the false promises that Obama has made and keeps making, they've got better than even odds.

If you can draw correlations between one person's sanity and the sanity of every other person who agrees with his views on the role of government...I have to question your own sanity.

This is America, remember? We're allowed to agree on some issues, and disagree on others, aren't we? Or would you rather be in China, where disagreement is not only discouraged, but deadly?

But if you need an excuse to support your prejudice against a whole group of people, then here it is. Enjoy it.

The problem there is that it makes you the intellectual equivalent of your average Ku Klux Klan member. If you're incapable or unwilling to see a group as a gathering of individuals, then you have bigger problems than the Tea Party.

Seriously?

Is the fact that he's "pretty" what bothers you the most about Mr. Ryan, or are you just too lazy to form an educated opinion?

Pretty sad commentary on the state of our nation when people make voting decisions based on how "pretty" someone is. No wonder we're on the brink of financial disaster.

No remote for the SX40. I've had very good luck using the 2-second timer instead.

And if you use CHDK, you can add an intervalometer and a motion-detection script to your bag o' tricks.

Thanks to all who responded to my topic. So I see the Photomatix can be used with JPEG. Good news and the SX-40 was bought today. Now to learn it, lots different from my T2i. The answer about the CHDK sounds very interesting also but right now I'm a bit afraid to use it as it sounds like it might require a change to the camera's loaded software and I fear that would negate my warranty. But after the year is up I'm gonna try it. Thanks again.

I've been using CHDK for five years now, on four different cameras.

The software is saved on your memory card, and doesn't change the camera's firmware. It only changes how the camera behaves when you're using it. If you remove the memory card, the camera's software is no different than when the factory loaded it.

I've never had to send a camera in for warranty; hopefully, you won't either. I have no reservations about loading up CHDK on a brand new camera, but I can see why people do.

I can't promise you that nothing bad will happen, but I can assure you that it's highly unlikely.

While it depends on what you wish to do with it, the 3Ti is the best bang for the buck as it has been discounted significantly when the 4Ti was released. Factory refurbished 3Ti's are also available here and there for very attractive prices.

I'm looking at the same decision as the OP.

Will the STM lenses work with the T3i, or do they require the T4i?

EDIT: Apparently, they do. I may pick up the T3i and add STM lenses later.

I heard somewhere that the restriction on video record length is to avoid the camera being classified as a video recorder (and being taxes as one) at the USA Customs.

Is it true?

Yes, its true.

It is an interest article. I don't fully agree with the final conclusion that to get much better quality photo's with a DSLR using a 400 mm lens you need to use a converter. I have used a SX 30 and a Canon 60 D with the Canon 100-400 IS lens quite extensively and this seems like a bogus statement to me.

Some sample pics would be helpful, if you'd be so kind.

I'm sorry - you teach but you misspell words as if you are uneducated. At least get that right. Manners. Absorb.

People are asking for comments and criticisms to improve their photography. It shouldn't matter what level we are - if it's an open forum. So what is all the fuss over levels of competency?

Each and every member of this UHH forum has something special to contribute, regardless of years' experience. Why are we struggling over this issue?

Let's post and question - so we don't get moved to Gallery. Let's live and learn! :-) Oh, yes, and LOVE! mc, Tucson
