There are 4 basic levels of photo knowledge - Beginner - Amateur - Novice - Pro. Definition: Beginner, uses auto modes only,or P&S - Amateur: uses Priority settings and some manual - Novice: uses all modes and practices aspects of light and composition. Pro: earns income from his knowledge and skill. Each level needs encouragement and guidance to achieve the next level. Each person would submit images for C&C and declare knowledge level(their level choice) Each person giving advise would also declare their level. In this manner all could participate. and a Beginner would not be judged as a Pro would be. Also PP would be evaluated when requested. Entry could ask for guidance in area -composition, for example. (Truth Yes - Nasty No) If DOF is bad say so but explain why and how to improve.
I was not going to pursue this any further - after reading all the posts on this subject I feel there are those out there that would benefit - those being reviewed and the reviewers - I know that by studying others images I learn from their mistakes,as well as learning new aspects or forgotten truths.
Yes Gallery has C&C but not all want Analyze is for specific problems, this would be for improving skills. If you feel this is worthwhile - Please reply -- as someone commented you pay for classes, the teacher gives a grade.

I am totally infavour of a C&C area (i've mentioned this more than once). I personally think the Photo Analysis needs to be changed to straight C&C and turn the gallery into a show and tell.

This is EXACTLY what I've been talking about when I comment. This is a great idea, in my amateur opinion.

I like the idea - with some reservations. The way it is presently defined, 'pros' are the most accomplished and their advice would, therefore, be the most valuable. However, it's clear that there are 'novices' on this forum who know considerably more about photography than SOME of those who would define themselves as pros. It is obvious from my postings that I am NOT one of those. Just because one makes money through photography does not necessarily make them a gifted photographer. There are some pros here who are truly OUTSTANDING, and I am always amazed at the skill they possess.
But there are also some here whose egos demand that we call them 'pros' and who wear that term on their sleeve as a badge of honor, but who are, in reality, among those in need of the most help.
That having been said, I totally agree with the general tenor of your post - that promotes serious C and C if it is desired by the poster.
I would welcome it.Someone should inform Administration..
I also agree that a C&C area would be useful. Currently both the Gallery and Photo Analysis areas often overlap with C&C requests and replies. It can be confusing and futile at times.
Classifying photographers is another matter rift with problems. I know many photogs who are world class talent who do not earn a living or get paid for their efforts and far far too many who do get paid for their work, despite limited skills and mediocre photographs. It is a muddy division at best and no indication of depth of knowledge or ability.
Perhaps, if it really matters, beginner, intermediate and advanced classifications might yield less posturing divisions and be more meaningful to those who want to know?

I am humbly in awe after reading your words. Is this heaven? No silly, it's only Florida.
Add another level: "advanced amateur", between "novice" and "pro". Very often, these are the people with the best general knowledge. "Pro" all too often means (a) highly specialized or (b) self satisfied or (c) self deluding/lying.
Also, don't forget luck. We all get lucky and take better pictures than we deserve, and there are times when bad luck means that it all goes pear shaped and we have problems. The only real definition of "pro" is "able to work around bad luck".
Cheers,
R.
C & c is good idea. I like a lot of the nice...and cute pics but a spot where c & c is gIven in a positive manner would help us all grow.

I think this is a good idea. As an amateur it would be helpful if a description of what camera and set up was used to take the picture.
Now, what about the PP on the photography? Some are better at post production than they are at taking photos and it makes sense to put these guys in a category since they will be helping to correct photos instead of giving advise in taking photos.
I agree with MWAC about having a C&C area and also a gallery for show and tell. I also agree with Festina Lente about the classifications. Both would be worthwhile for me.
