I know that there is a lot of discussion about printers and the Epson printers a very good quality. Consider HP's Photoprinters, they are also amazing. In buying a printer I would only purchase an Epson or HP. Just more info, good luck.

The thing I found about HP before I bought Epson was that H-P doesn't specify their droplet size nor horizontal and vertical ppi resolution information. Thus you can't compare to Epson and Canon. Even an employee at Best Buy who was told to sell the hell out of H-P said that disappointed him because he had asked about specs and H-P training specialists avoided the subject. He himself preferred and owned an Epson although Best Buy had dropped them in favor of H-P and Canon. That would mean that H-P printers either waste ink worse than other brands or their print resolution isn't as good.

I also don't think H-P makes a printer with 6 or 8 convenient separate ink-saving tanks and only uses the multi-color single tank method so you are throwing away unused color inks when only one color goes dry. I might be wrong on that because I don't pay much attention to H-P printers for photo purposes.

You're probably right with the specs. I'll check into this a bit further with HP. HP has been using separate ink colors for quite awhile now. I have a 6 color and Black that I have been using for several years now. Thanks for the reply.

I have over 32000 digital images. I have set up individual files in my computer using names that fit the different types of photography that I do, quite a few of them to be honest.
When I look at the images I have shot, after deleting the rejects I do a select all and the using the first image I rename them with the date they were taken ~ ie. 11 22 11 (the computer will not accept / - or other symbols so I simply use a space). Each date is unique and will never reoccur so images shot today and stored in the birds file will be placed under the images shot on 11 20 10 ect.
This system works well for me, the only thing I have to remember is whether I saved an image taken of a landscape on a road as a landscape image or a road image. If I can't remember then I just look in both ☺

So, if you want to see all photos say of herons then you would need to look through all those dates. If you put all the heron photos under Fauna, Bird, Herons then you could look at all the photos at once. What do you think. Thanks

While it may have been polite to ask... the photographer had/has no legal obligation to do so in a public setting..

In fact, stopping the spontaneous activity to obtain "permission" results in a set-shot, and defeats the entire purpose of capturing reality or what caught the photographers eye in the first place..

Open a magazine....photos of people on the beach or in the streets happen thousands of times daily...

Actually, a reputable publisher will ask for a release. If there are 50 people or kids in the photo then sometimes a release from them all is not possible. Just be responsible and polite.

I would have a big problem with this. The photographer should have asked you for permission and informed you of their intent. I was always under the impression that pictures taken of people required a release to be signed (or is that more etiquette than requirement?)

Yes, you should have a photo release from the parent if the child can be recognized, especially if you are going to have the photo published. Releases of anyone to be published should be there.

The thing to remember is choose a system that works for you, being able to find a single photo from years past is imparitive. What I use is a fairly simple method. Catagories are:
The word Fauna are animals.
The word Flora are plants, flowers, trees.
So a hiarchi of file names are this:
Photos
---Fauna
------Ducks
--------Mallard
---Fauna
-----Geese
-------Whitefront
-------Canada
I do not use events or dates, can't remember the date when the photos were taken of the rodeo two years ago, the dates are already imbedded in the metadata. So, in the case of a rodeo
----photos
------rodeo
In the case of Flora
----photos
------flora
--------trees
--------flower (you could have specific flower names)
Anyway this works for me. A side note I also have a Data Base to keep track of my shots, and which editor they went to and returned (in the case of slides, or CD). The digital shots go in the DB as well.

All these are great tips, ideas. Photoshop Elements is a photo editing s/w plus a nice photo organizer. You will probably like it for a start. It is also a lot cheeper than Lightroom. Sorry, but I can not quote a price for it. Good luck and have fun in this exciting world of photos.

Nothing is lost in the raw format, the camera settings like saturation etc won't be saved in the raw file. This is why you need to manipulate the setting from the raw file yourself. Please remember not to save back to the raw file, this raw file should be your negative and not touched.

Burning to disc is a good idea, however, things can go wrong. I would consider a backup drive, or a storage drive to automatically store your photos. This way you have a possible three places of storage, 1-your pc, 2-cd or dvd, 3-backup drive or storage drive. I have had to use my backup drive restore more than once. Now days a storage device like 1 or 2 tb are reasonable in price.

Great shot, but the jet trails distract from the scene. I always take shots without these trails.

I have the same problem with windows, DVD,whatever. Sometimes ok others not. I have found, so far a no fail solution and it is so easy. I bought Roxio, easy CD/DVD software for around $30. It has never failed me yet. You just put the DVD into the drive, drag the photos or AVI file to the icon and done. Hope this helps, you might be able to get a free download to try before purchase.

Fellow photographers, glad to see the many uses for photos. You guys are great. I am a pro and want to pass on. First, I want to say how I organize my photos. I have a morph way of organizing: The hiarchy goes like this:
Photos,Scenic,Landscape
Sunrise/Sunset
etc
Mountain,(name of mountain) etc
Photos,Fauna,Deer
Mule deer
Whitetail
Duck
Mallard etc
This way I can search for any catagory and find what I want. I can't imagine trying to find a wedding photo that I shot two years ago, at what month. Altho tagging I do and is a big help. Just some thought to ponder. Thanks

This is all true. Rule of thirds needs to be in consideration. However as stated before good balance needs to be there also. Nowdays the rules are broken and sometimes it works. There are all kinds of expression and it is actually in the hands of the photographer to tell the viewer, lead to a story or concept in the photo. Keep on shooting.
