I think you need to get a little closer.

Your first 2 shots are truly amazing.

From 1986-2006, Indiana was one of the few (I think 3 at the time) states that did not observe Daylight Savings Time except a few counties around Chicago and Louisville. Being at the "late" side of the Eastern Time Zone (Solar Noon at approx. 12:45), Eastern Daylight Savings gives us sunsets after 9 p.m. When the time changes in March, kids who were going out to school buses with a 7 a.m sunrise are suddenly plunged back into the dark with sunrise at 8 a.m. The sun doesn't rise at 5:30 a.m. in the summer either. Not changing clocks was an advantage. Deciding whether you were on Eastern or Central time twice a year was a disadvantage. We did get to have our own computer time zone, though.

I do think that continuity between states is important. That said, having experienced both systems, I and many others I know are opposed to Daylight Savings Time period. Again, being on the trailing edge of a time zone influences that attitude. We can be too late in the Eastern Zone and too early in the Central Zone. Our location worked well for most of the year.

That was a great idea - "out of the box" - figuratively and literally (I suppose). While we could hope for better image quality, the viewpoint was brilliant. Thanks for sharing the idea and the images. I agree that the first is the best capture, but I really appreciate you thinking to look down at yourself, too.

Given the description, is it "Scary, dudes . . ." or "Scary Dudette"? Regardless, I agree she's truly scary.

Thanks for bringing this unknown bit of Germanic folklore to light. Such characters and mythology always raise the question of whether there is a reality from the past that they memorialize.

Isn't there an app where I can find out when a train will cross a trestle for a photo opp? Thanks in advance guys!

Sounds like you're looking for a one-time (or infrequent) event and not regular train-watching. You might find out if there's a local rail fan club near you. They will probably include people who are familiar with the flow of traffic, have scanners, and/or are photographers themselves.

Rail fans often use scanners to keep track of local traffic. If you're interested, this article https://www.trainaficionado.com/why-should-every-railfan-have-a-scanner/ is a good quick overview. You can listen for transmissions from the crew if they are close. As mentioned in one of the posts above, there are also wayside detectors whose transmissions can be monitored. I didn't check to see if they are mapped. The ones near my house are too close to provide sufficient warning. If they're close to a road or other access point, you'll generally see a control shed beside the track and some box-shaped devices inside or along the outside of the tracks.

There are other resources for railroad scanners that will be useful. Hope this helps your quest.

I wish I had the time to photograph trains. They're another main interest. I live very close to a CSX (ex-Conrail) main with excellent access that used to be very heavily trafficked. I'd love to catalog the work of America's finest graffiti artists in their rolling exhibitions.

Some of us are showing our age a bit. My first was my father's 1958ish Argus Argoflex E twin lens reflex for 620 film - which I still have. The first real camera I purchased was a Kodak Retina IIIC, with it's two additional lens, filters, auxiliary viewfinder - the whole works. While some of you had yours "legitimately" stolen, I was careless enough to leave mine in my High School restroom one day. Still really miss that camera. It's replacement was my "old Ikon", a c.1937 Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta (or Ikomat) A (530) that I still have and used up to the end of my film days. A fabulous 6x4.5cm compact rangefinder. Those cameras started my collection, which I still enjoy and add to occasionally.

In the digital world, boy how I lusted after the Sony Mavica after it first came out. I believe my first digital camera was a Vivitar, I think 1.4 mpix (which I also still have). My first really capable digital was a Fuji Finepix D700, which I used until the sensor was no longer providing accurate color. I couldn't convince myself (or my wife) that I needed to spend more than that. For my general photography it served me well.

It appears to me that the LED backlights (around the edge of the screen) in that section have failed. I'd agree that the monitor is on its way out.

I'll pass, thank-you. My engineering knowledge is not able to overcome my phobia. I had a very nice time photographing my wife while she was walking the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

You need to sell that one to their Tourism and/or Development offices - or people who print Cincy souvenirs. I've never seen the city so beautiful. You did a great job of capturing the colors, even to the variation in the sky.
