High Voltage dives by Acorn Woodpeckers

These woodpeckers were busy stuffing acorns into pre-existing holes in a power pole. After each job they launched and dove to gain speed, pretty much in my direction. Fun to watch! The facial expression looks intense.

Irvine Regional Park
Orange, California, USA

Olympus E-M5 II, M.Zuiko Digital ED 75-300mm F4.8-6.7 II
f/10 and f/13, 221mm and 300mm, 1/2500 second. ISO 6400 because in between these I was shooting hummingbirds in partial shade.

First shot, not quite as sharp as later.

Nice set.....we see many of those woodpeckers here, with similar behavior.

Unfortunately, the woodpeckers did the same to my wood clad barn. I found it a bit hard to see the hunor in it!

Wouldn't want to be climbing that pole for any maintenance reason. Nice shots.
