I like the dark. It gives it more emotion.
Not every photo photographer can think out of the box and I can find bright colorful flowers all day long. I have seen so many pictures of lilies that all look the same, this was nice and I like the effects.

I have the canon sx50 With the remarkable zoom range it is the most just plain fun I have ever had with a camera. when I looked for mine (just a few months ago) I found more for sale at higher prices then what you are asking I think your price is fair. Just Saying.

I think you are trying to get a clear pic of the flame, if so put your camera on a tripod, with the flame out put a wooden match stick where the flame will be and focus on the match. Pull out the match being careful not to move anything light the candle and take the pic You can also play with the aperture to get the effect you want
