Why not, do you plan on any heavy post processing while on the road?

I want to do all the post processing I do at home when I'm traveling.

I don't know the differences between Notebooks or Laptops for this purpose. I have never used Macs only Windows.
Don't want to spend a fortune but am traveling some and would like to download my pictures before I get home. I know there are opinions out there.

First of all, it's obvious that some of the responders suggesting getting a 17" laptop have never traveled with them except by car. That size machine is considered a desktop alternative and not really designed for portability. Another suggested a iPad which is totally useless for any serious post processing. The two criteria that I look for are weight and storage. I have been spending many months away from home lately traveling to all parts of the world and have been using a three year old Dell Latitude e7240 12" laptop running Windows 10. This is considered a business grade (more durable for travel) machine that has an I7 processor 8GB memory, 1TB of solid state storage, and weighs in at just under 3 pounds. It has all my post processing software and plenty of room to store my images. When I get home I just transfer the image folders to my NAS box and I'm good to go. I also carry a USB powered external drive for an additional level of backup.

Most smaller laptops use SSDs and generally start with 128GB or 256GB. From personal experience I can tell you that you need at least 500GB which will add to the price. I also consider the machine I use a traveling PC and don't really use it when I'm at home. Here's a link to the current model http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/latitude-12-7000-series-e7270/spd/latitude-e7270-ultrabook/cto03le727012us

Yes and guess who ultimately pays those taxes. Quite often when your favorite XXX raises its price it's because of a tax.

I’m sure that taxes are baked into the price of everything but a GST is a Goods and Services Tax and is like a sales tax paid by the consumer.

Or it could be exactly what the op said it is.

Unless your country is really different, the consumer pays the tax and not the business. That would not be a reason for a price increase.

They will go up everywhere eventually. All subscription style offerings do that incrementally over time when they think they've got enough of a customer base hooked.

It's a business decision if they increase their price and not because they think they have you "hooked".

Just to make you all aware that Adobe WILL increase the price of the Photographers package when they so decide I thought you might like to know the New Zealand scenario.
When I subscribed to the package about 2 1/2 years back, the price was $9.99 Australian. (With our currency that translated to about $NZ11.50 a month.) About a year ago Adobe decided that we should pay significantly more for this wonderful package and increased the price to $AU 11.99 per month. That currently translates to about $NZ15.00 a month. Wasn't impressed with this increase but just decided to bear it. Have just received an email from Adobe which tells me that our NZ Govt have caught up with a number of businesses trading in NZ as they do and from End of November they will have to increase their price to recoup the 15% GST they are required to pay. Thats going to add a further $NZ2.25 to the present charge. Starting to get expensive now and I'm keeping an eye on the reviews and comments coming from this site regarding Luminar, On One and the other new and developing software packages. $NZ17.25 a month takes it out to $NZ210.00 per year. Its getting up there!!

If you were paying $9.99 AUD then you were getting a deal as that's about $13 USD and we still pay $9.99 here in the US. If Adobe needs to increase their price they will because that's a business decision and not because they don't like you. As far as the 15% GST goes, that's the price you pay for socialism.

It seems that manufacturers sometimes use Arca-Swiss style plates for their tripod heads but they may be their own proprietary design. For example, Manfrotto has started to produce an Arca-Swiss style mount but it's not compatible with other makes. I'm interested in purchasing Kirk L-brackets for my cameras and an Induro tripod and tripod head. Does anyone know how I can determine if those two manufacturers are using the same Arca-Swiss dimensions and would be compatible?

If it states Arca swiss compatibility it should be compatible. I've used Arca style mounts, plates, heads, L-brackets from many different manufacturers and they all work together just fine. As far as Manfrotto goes, their mounts have been proprietary and not compatible. Maybe they have wised up and will be going to the Arca style mount.

I have been using the 28-300 quite extensively the past two years having shot at least 40k images with it on my Canon 5D III. The only other option for that focal length range is the Canon 28-300 L which is much heavier and way more expensive. The Tamron is a great travel lens. As far as sharpness goes its good enough for me but not perfect. Here’s an example.

The package that you get for free today originally was $600 because it worked on both Lightroom and Photoshop. The Lightroom plugins by themselves were $150 (or so).

Thank you for the practical advice, I will look into the cardboard tubes. I am flying with Emirates because we are on a tour that my sister chose. This is on her bucket list and it never occurred to me to check their limitations prior to booking the tour. I have never had a problem with other airlines. As an aside, I went to Italy for three months and only took an iPhone and a backpack with seven articles of clothing. It was the biggest mistake I ever made as far as traveling light. That was a bit too light. This is one of those trips, seeing the African scenery and the animals that exist in other places only in zoos, that will never be made again by us, and I do not want to repeat the Italy camera phone again.
Thank you for the practical advice, I will look in... (show quote)

Emirates is a first class experience even in coach. The service is excellent, the flight attendants are youthful, and their equipment is modern. I avoid US carriers at all cost and only fly Southwest domestically.
