I did the upgrade yesterday morning and everything is running fine. It seems much more responsive and I like the new browser.

No issues for me on a 4 year old laptop, the upgrade took about 90 minutes. So far, I like this better than the Windows 7 I was running before. (64 bit Professional)

It's my understanding that due to the large size of the files needed for the upgrade that the download will take place over the next few days. There will be no "conversion" or partial installation until release date.

It's been interesting reading all of the misinformation on this site about the Windows 10 upgrade and Microsoft bashing. Bottom line - if you like what you're using, stay with it.

According to the link above it will be free the first year therefore making it a pay as you go software.

That's wrong, there is no cost to upgrade for one year after release. Once you upgrade there are no further charges - ever for the OS

I have never heard of anyone complaining they got "too much" tripod or spent too much on one. However there are 1000s who tried to buy cheap and are unhappy, looking to replace a cheap tripod with one that is less cheap but also considerably less than they need. None of the latter 1000s have ever experienced the solid feel of quality support. If they did, they wouldn't be buying junk.

Been there done that - RRS aren't cheap but a haven't heard a bad review

Thanks for all of the responses - I've decided to go with the 34L and 55 ball head. You've all confirmed what I suspected; if I purchased the 24L and 40 ball head I most likely would've been second guessing my decision.

I'm considering the purchase of a RRS tripod and narrowed it down to the TVC-24L and BH-40LR or the TVC-34L and BH-55LR. Heaviest current equipment is D800 and 70-200 f4. I'm concerned about packing the 34L in a bag for traveling. I'm hoping someone has experience with either of these, in particular, packing for traveling. Thanks.

Why not rent them both and see if the 1 stop makes a difference for what you shoot. I did and ended up with the f4 and I'm very happy with it.

I also have the D800 and rented the 14-24 for a trip. It's a beautiful lens and the images are great. The downside is it's very big and heavy. I ended up with the 16-35 and couldn't be happier.

I suggest if you're on the fence, why not rent the 14-24 and take it on your trip. I lot less expensive and you can see for yourself.

I've gotten in the habit of renting any lens I'm considering purchasing before buying. I've been using Borrow lenses and had great service from them.

But not enough or good enough. Looking for a RAID setup.

If you're looking for a nice RAID setup I suggest a Synology RAID. Check them out at B & H. Much better than a bunch of external drives and your data is safe from a drive failure when (not if) it happens. Also can be accessed from any computer or tablet on your network instantly. It's really the way to go for external storage.

Even if you get this drive to work, would you ever trust it for your backups? If it didn't work 100% out of the box, I wouldn't back up anything to it.

I just finished formatting my PC and now I'm looking at external Hard drives. I want no less than 1T but would prefer 2t. Can I get some suggestions as to what you are all using. My PC is a Dell Inspirion 580.

Thanks
Pappy

Check out the Synology NAS, it may be a little more upfront, but your data is secure and you can grow it as needed. You're protected against a drive failure and you can access from any computer or tablet.

I use Vello snap-on lcd screen protector on my Canon 7D and it works great. Very easy to wipe off any smudges. I have never had to take it off since I put it on a year and half ago. Well worth it...Rich

I just purchased one of these for D800. Custom fit and even comes with a protector for the top LCD. Well worth the money, IMHO.

Long story short - I have a Syslogic system - two 2TB drives configured with RAID 0, the drives back each other up; one goes bad, I replace it and it is repopulated by the other. - both go bad I got troubles.
This drive is my primary repository for photographic data - Images and other information. I use Windows 7 which I used to copy the images from another drive into this one.
I use Windows Explorer to copy images using a card reader into whatever file I already have and they fit or I make a new file for them. Whatever program I'm using on whatever computer can access the images, at time simultaneously
Long story short - I have a Syslogic system - two ... (show quote)

I hope this is a typo. If you're using RAID 0 your data is not protected. RAID 0 is stripped (data across muliple disks). You want to be using RAID 1 which is mirroring.
