Windows 10 download starting early??

I was on my Win 7 computer yesterday morning when it started acting funny. My Malware program kept popping up saying it has successfully blocked an intrusion. But when it showed me what had been successfully blocked it was always a Windows file.

I had read somewhere that Microsoft will be starting some of the preliminary downloading ahead of the July 29th date and I am now wondering if that was what I was experiencing yesterday. Was MS starting on the Windows 7 conversion early? I assume converting Win 7 computers will be a bigger process that converting Win 8.1 computers? Nothing similar occurred yesterday on my two 8.1 computers.

When I started my computer this A.M. it took a long time and then went through a Correction Process before it completed the regular start up. Works fine now. Anyone know if MS has started the upgrading process?

I doubt that MS would start your download ahead of time. On the other hand, it's hard to believe that a Windows machine would be giving you trouble. :D

Actually, Jerry, as I mentioned, I had read somewhere(?) that due to the massive nature of the downloading, MS would be installing "parts" of Win 10 ahead of the 29th date. That's what made me think that the problem yesterday might have been caused by such a partial download.

Also made me wonder if, in order to download Win 10, should we shut down all of our protection programs first?? Could they interfere with the download?

I read an article a few weeks ago that mentioned preparitory downloads for Win 10.

Why don't you just send a query to Microsoft?

Am I being forced to upgrade to Windows 10? The version I have works fine. I should be able to choose whether I want to upgrade and not have it forced on me.

It's my understanding that due to the large size of the files needed for the upgrade that the download will take place over the next few days. There will be no "conversion" or partial installation until release date.

It's been interesting reading all of the misinformation on this site about the Windows 10 upgrade and Microsoft bashing. Bottom line - if you like what you're using, stay with it.

Microsoft is not forcing the upgrade to windows 10, they are offering a free upgrade to windows 10 for a limited time. You have to go to the Microsoft website and register for the upgrade.

You can also choose not to install it or when to install it. It won't automatically install.

I signed up for the auto update and yes, they did say they would be downloading files in the background ahead of time to make the transition quicker. But then they will be letting me know when things are ready to update and let me choose when to do so. If you didn't sign up for it you shouldn't be seeing anything happening on your computer. Have you ran your virus program's full scan to make sure it wasn't something else?

Ditto Fg, I was informed by MS that I could apply for the Free version and would then be informed when it was available for me to download. I was also informed that I could revert back if I wasn't satisfied with the new version.
